When Healthcare students encounter racism, discrimination, and microaggressions (RDM) in clinical settings, they require quick interpretation, emotional regulation, and intentional decision-making within strict professional hierarchies. These experiences can undermine confidence, contribute to burnout, and impede learning.
This action research project investigates simulation-based learning as an innovative approach to help students recognize, process, and respond effectively to RDM. Quantitative data assess improvements in confidence and preparedness, while qualitative findings illuminate how students interpret and find meaning in these experiences. The results demonstrate that simulation can be a powerful tool for cultivating resilience, inclusion, and equity-minded leadership in healthcare education.
