Birthdays are a reason to celebrate!
They are also a great way for our class to learn about each other and practice speaking in front of a group and asking questions!
We hope to make your child’s birthday extra special this year in three ways:
On your child’s birthday (or “special day” if they have a summer birthday or if the birthday falls over the weekend), your child will bring their “birthday poster” to school. We will send home a half poster board about a week before so that you and your child can put it together. Some things to include:
A picture of your child as a newborn or young infant
A picture of your child’s family
A picture or drawing of something your child really enjoys
A picture or drawing of anything else your child wants to share about.
So, look for the poster board to come home the week before we celebrate your child’s birthday at school and have fun filling it together!
2. On the day we celebrate your child’s birthday, you are welcome to read a story to the class. No birthday treats, please. We promise to make it a special day without them and it will make the treat at home even more exciting. If you are not able to read, don’t worry…we have a supply of great stories and activities to make your child the birthday star.
3. In school, we have a couple of birthday traditions. Your child has a chance to share their poster but each student will have a chance to share something nice about the birthday student when we pass a birthday stone around our circle. This is so adorable and such a nice way for the children to practice giving a compliment. Look for the stone to come home in the birthday bag that also has a few little other gifts in it.
