Chapter 6 - We Believe in God
In Unit 2 of the Benchmark Advance 2022 curriculum for third grade, students explore the theme of "Ways Characters Shape Stories" through a study of fables, folktales, and myths. The unit centers on the Essential Question, "How do our actions influence our lives?" as students analyze the motivations and traits of characters in stories like The Tale of King Midas and Snow White. Key reading strategies emphasize identifying story elements, recounting events, and determining the central message or moral of a text. Additionally, students practice metacognitive skills such as making inferences and comparing and contrasting different versions of traditional tales to understand how character choices drive the plot.
Fundations - Unit 6
Fundations Level 3 Unit 6 focuses on the open syllable type. In this syllable type, there is no consonant following the vowel, which make the vowel use the long sound. Examples would include go, remote, and ?. This unit also introduces y as a vowel. Vowel y can make the long i sound at the end of one syllable words, or the long e sound at the end of multisyllablic words, but it must always have a "baby-sitter". Examples of this would be puppy, plenty, or shy. In later weeks, we will study the open syllable exception. In this syllable type, the vowel is not followed by a consonant, but it does not make the long sound. Instead, it make a "schwa" or lazy vowel sound. Examples of this type would include awoke, substitute, and champion.

I found another teacher's slides that may be helpful for home practice. I do not use them in the classroom, but they are a great resource if your student is absent or having trouble with the concepts.
