Social studies:We will be using a Bring Learning Alive! with TCI’s K-12 Social Studies Curriculum textbook to lead us in this broad subject. Second grade will focus on learning how to read and use maps, study about people in our world, recognize how people work together, acknowledge and learn about historical events, and they will learn about different cultures throughout the world. Chapter tests will be given at the conclusion of each chapter.
Science: We will be using Bring Science Alive! Hands-On Science Curriculum
Units of study include chapters focusing on life, earth, and physical science. Built to the Next Generation Science Standards with a focus on science and literacy integration, real-world problem solving and STEM careers, Brings Science Alive makes science fun while preparing students to think critically and design solutions to the problems in their world. Inspire Science is designed to help spark students' interest and empower them to ask more questions, think more critically, and maximize their ability to creatively solve problems. Tests at the end of each chapter will be administered to assess their knowledge gained.
Language Arts: (Reading, Grammar, and Spelling) This area of literacy includes reading, writing, speaking and listening. Our curriculum offers a plethora of ways to encompass these functions with our language. We will be using the McGraw Hill Wonders reading series. This series will offer the students practice in vocabulary, reading comprehension, grammar, spelling, and writing through daily activities and workbook practice. The students will also have various writing pieces to complete throughout the year. The students will also be engaged in several shared readings with short stories and poems, read alouds, guided reading, and independent reading assessments such as Accelerated Reader. There are weekly spelling and reading assessments.
