Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati (1901–1925) was an ordinary young man who lived his faith in extraordinary ways. He grew up in Italy in a wealthy family, but instead of seeking comfort, he gave his time, money, and energy to serving the poor, sick, and forgotten. Pier Giorgio was full of joy, loved mountain climbing, and often invited his friends to join him in prayer and acts of charity.
Even though he died at only 24 years old, his life was a powerful witness to the joy of following Christ. Pope St. John Paul II called him a "man of the Beatitudes" and beatified him in 1990. Pier Giorgio reminds us that holiness is possible for young people and that true happiness comes from living for God and serving others.
His motto was “Verso l’alto”—“to the heights”—which inspires us to always aim higher in faith, hope, and love.
