Curriculum

This year we will use Inspire Science by McGraw Hill to follow the New Generation Science Standards. The performance expectations in fourth grade help students formulate answers to questions such as: “What are waves and what are some things they can do? How can water, ice, wind and vegetation change the land? What patterns of Earth’s features can be determined with the use of maps? How do internal and external structures support the survival, growth, behavior, and reproduction of plants and animals? What is energy and how is it related to motion? How is energy transferred? and How can energy be used to solve a problem?

Our Math text is Go Math (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publisher). This series incorporates the Common Core Standards. Fourth Grade focus is on problem solving, understanding vocabulary, along with curriculum based concepts, standards, and practice.

iKnowIt is an online resource for students to practice their skills. Xtramath will be used daily to practice facts.

Our reading program is taught through a literature-based program, which involves oral and silent reading, using techniques of review and enrichment, reference and study, decoding and phonics skills.

I will use chapter books to encourage a love of reading, while covering a variety of skills. Use of discussion groups, literature circles, and response journals aid in reading instruction and comprehension. I use several different genres in the literature program including: fiction, nonfiction, mystery, biography, realistic and historical fiction.Storyworks is also used. This magazine includes plays, poetry, fiction and nonfiction literature, along with skill instruction.


Our Religion series is WE Believe . We will study the Ten Commandments, The sacraments, The Beatitudes, along with Catholic prayers, traditions, and the Saints. We attend Mass weekly, visit the Chapel for Adoration , and pray the Rosary.

Daily Work will account for 40% of grades, Test and Quizzes will account for 60%.
