Math

Textbook: Sadlier Math. This is a new comprehensive core math program for Grades K–6, offering the tools to build mathematical proficiency using real world problem-solving.

For each lesson, students will find:


Reading and Language Arts


Reading: Reading will be taught through the use of a variety of chapter books and short stories. Through the use of these resources, students will expand their vocabulary and further develop reading and literary skills. Our class will learn elements of setting, point of view, characterization, and plot. We will also focus on comprehension, of fiction and non-fiction, through class discussions, reflections, and making connections to everyday life.

  

Vocabulary and Grammar: We will be using the Sadlier program for Vocabulary and Grammar as well as additional resources from our chapter books when appropriate. Our grammar books primarily involve sentence construction, parts of speech, and the writing process. 


Spelling : Word lists are from the third grade curriculum guide. The students will learn how to define the words, sort the words with similar patterns, use the words in sentences, etc.


Writing: Students will write a in a variety genres including informational pieces, narratives, and persuasive pieces. Students will also learn to use technology to produce and publish writing pieces. 


Religion


Textbook: We Believe. Each unit covers a major area of Catholic Faith. Your child will be learning about the Sacraments, Ten Commandments, Saints, and Prayers. Our class will also focus on learning and reciting the prayers and mysteries of rosary each week.  Our classroom patron saint is Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton. We celebrate her feast day on January 4th. 

 


Science


Textbook: Inspire by McGraw Hill. Inspire Science sparks students’ curiosity through fascinating real-world phenomena. Students investigate, problem-solve, argue, and discuss scientific phenomena to make sense of the world from their perspective. 

 

 

Social Studies


Textbook: Our Communities by Harcourt. This course involves the study of different types of communities, citizenship, map reading, structure of government, geography, cultural diversity, and more.
