Kindergarten News!!
Good afternoon! I hope you had a wonderful weekend and are ready for our first full week of school! Mrs. Anthony and I have some really fun activities planned for your child! Here are some announcements and reminders to help our week continue smoothly.
Connect App
We are almost 100% on our Connect App participation - so close. It is my understanding this will become our primary communication in the coming weeks. Our class code is SJKR.
I will also be posting our newsletter there in just a few moments. Bear with me if it looks outrageous or doesn't go as planned. It may take a few weeks for me to find the best way to deliver information there. Until then - you'll get both an email and a connect app notification. Same information in both places.
Kindergarten Morning Meeting Change
Our circle in the gym seemed a bit tight last week when we welcomed all of our kindergarten friends. To allow kindergarten a bit more room during morning meeting, we traded places with 2nd graders. Our new spot is in the back left corner as your walk in. There will be helpers to remind your child of our new seating arrangement for the year during morning meeting.
Math Homework this Week
For math homework this week each kindergarten student will be learning his or her lunch number. Kindergarten students will be responsible for putting their own numbers in when they buy a full lunch, a milk only, or extras.
Please help your child by practicing his or her lunch number at least three times in the afternoon. As soon as your child can push their own number in without looking at their lunch tag, they will be allowed to take off their tag. This is a huge deal for kindergarteners! We hope to have everyone's tag off by this Friday.
Rest Stuffie
Your child is allowed to bring one stuffed animal to rest with during rest time. It must fit in your child's backpack to travel, and will stay there until rest time.
Uniform Outerwear
Although it is quite warm outside, some of our kindergarten friends may find our classroom chilly at times. In order to wear the sweatshirt/sweater, it must be a school uniform component. Kindergarteners wear NAVY BLUE sweaters and jackets. (If you have a question about what this uniform component looks like, please let me know. I can help! You can also look on Land's End website under the "School Uniforms" tab and search for our school.
Mighty Kicks Soccer and Tippi Toes Dance
Mighty Kicks are two programs offered to all St. Joseph Kindergarteners. Both programs occur AFTER school and are OPTIONAL. The following links will take you to their websites for more information, pricing, and dates:
Individual Learning Pace
Next week, we will begin shifting toward our academic learning as well as our social learning. Please be patient with us in this transition. While some things, like Phonemic Awareness (Heggerty, for my PreK 4 friends) will begin very quickly, it will take longer to identify your child's exact reading knowledge. Within weeks, your child will be rolling at a pace set individually for him or her.
