Welcome back to a new school year!
Thank you to everyone who attended our Meet the Teacher sessions. The presentations are available on the class pages of the school website if you were unable to attend.
This week we had the pleasure of welcoming local MP Sir Ed Davey, Deputy Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kingston Councillor Jane Lim and CEO of Christ the Redeemer Trust John Conway for the official opening of our new school library. The library has been in the making for just over a year with the work started in June this year.
Reading is the gateway to all learning, and this wonderful new library has instantly become a favoured space in our school. We are immensely grateful to the charity Fairstart, led by the wonderful David Cope, for their generosity and vision, not just in its creation, but in their commitment to supporting us long after the official opening through their wonderful team of volunteers.
Seeing the children's eyes light up as they explore the new books is a powerful reminder of how a dedicated, inspiring space can spark a lifelong love for reading.
I look forward to welcoming parents and carers to come and see the space for yourselves.
We are delighted to announce the opening of our brand‑new school library,a bright, welcoming space designed to inspire a love of reading across all year groups.
Parents and carers are warmly invited to come in and see the new library for themselves. Pupils have already begun exploring the shelves, and we look forward to sharing this exciting new resource with our school community.
To celebrate, we have organised two afternoon sessions every Tuesday for parents and carers to visit.
Please kindly sign up here if you would like to attend one of these sessions.
Come and discover the wonderful new books and reading areas that make our library such a special place!
Our Faith Council represented our school at the Start of the School Year Mass at Southwark Cathedral last Friday. This special celebration marks the beginning of the new academic year for Catholic schools across the diocese, bringing pupils and staff together in prayer and reflection.
We are proud of our Faith Council pupils for taking part in this important event and for representing our school community with such enthusiasm and commitment.

Our Tuesday morning movement sessions have now restarted, and we are excited to welcome all children from across the school to join us. These short, energetic sessions are a brilliant way for pupils to begin the day feeling active, focused and ready for learning.
Children should arrive at 8:25am every Tuesday, entering through the KS2 playground gate. Staff and Y6 sports leaders will be ready to greet them and lead a range of simple movement activities suitable for all ages.
We encourage as many pupils as possible to take part — it’s a fun, positive start to the morning and a great way to build healthy habits.
We have had a lovely and busy first month in Nursery! The children have settled in really well, making new friends, learning our routines and growing in confidence and independence. Our topic has been All About Me, where we have talked about what makes each of us special, explored different feelings through The Colour Monster and enjoyed creating our own self-portraits. In Maths, we have explored colours and started learning about the number 0. In RE, we have been learning about God’s beautiful world and the Creation story. We have also had lots of fun in Music, exploring different sounds and beats using musical instruments.
We are so proud of how well the children have settled and all they have achieved during their first month in Nursery.
Reception have made a fantastic start to the new school year and have settled brilliantly into their class.
This month we have been focusing on belonging and learning more about each other through our 'All About Me' topic. The children made their own All About Me bags and they enjoyed bringing them in to share with their friends. We've also been making our own self portraits and playing lots of name games.
We have also started learning our phase 2 sounds in phonics and the children love joining in with 'What's in the bag?' each morning.
In R.E. we have been exploring the story of Creation and talking about ways we can help take care of our world which is God's gift to us.
We have been experimenting with different ways of moving in P.E.
Year 1 have made a fantastic start to the year, and we are so proud of how well the children have settled into their new routines and expectations. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm, curiosity and growing confidence each day.
In English, the children enjoyed reading Axel Scheffler’s wonderful version of The Three Little Pigs. We have been learning to write sentences using capital letters, full stops and adjectives to make our writing more interesting and descriptive. We have now begun a new adventure with Traction Man by Mini Grey, and the children are already enjoying exploring this exciting story. They have also been practising their tricky words in lots of creative and memorable ways.
One of the highlights of our year so far has been discovering our new school library. The children loved choosing some special books to enjoy and share back in the classroom.
In Maths, we have been busy counting and comparing numbers and objects, deciding which groups are greater, smaller or the same. The children have also been exploring number lines and developing their understanding by finding missing numbers and values. We have been so impressed with their enthusiasm and determination.
In Science, we have been learning all about animals, including humans. The children had great fun drawing around each other and labelling the different parts of the body that they already knew. We are now finding out more about our skeletons and the amazing organs inside our bodies. There have been lots of interesting questions and fascinating discoveries along the way.
In R.E., we learned about the life of Saint Bernadette, our class saint. We also listened to the Creation Story and created beautiful pictures celebrating all the wonderful things God created. The children were very proud to add their artwork and reflections to our class Faith Journal, which is already becoming a special record of our learning and faith journey together.
In P.E., the children have been having lots of fun learning basic gymnastics movements. They have been exploring how to use different parts of their bodies, as well as travelling at high and low levels, while developing their balance, coordination and control.
It has been a wonderful start to Year 1, and we are incredibly proud of everything the children have achieved so far. Well done, Year 1!
Our Year 2 children have made an excellent start to the new school year. They have settled into their new routines beautifully and are already showing a fantastic attitude toward their learning. In English, we have been using the Caterpillar Shoes short film from Literacy Shed as inspiration for our writing. The children have thoroughly enjoyed role-playing as the caterpillar and have used this experience to write creative diary entries from his perspective. In our art sessions, we have been exploring textures by taking outdoor rubbings to create a style of artwork called a frottage. Meanwhile, in maths, the children have been working hard on place value by partitioning numbers within a hundred and thinking carefully about the value of each digit. We are very proud of how hard everyone is working and look forward to seeing their progress continue.
Year 3 have made a fabulous start to the year, settling quickly into familiar routines and showing an eagerness for their learning. In English, the children have been reading Roald Dahl’s The Magic Finger. They have enjoyed exploring the different characters, discussing their actions and personalities, and using these ideas as inspiration for developing imaginative plans for their own sequel to the story.
In maths, the class have extended their understanding of place value and are now confidently working with numbers up to 1000. They are recalling important facts from previous learning and applying this knowledge in a range of problem‑solving tasks, showing greater independence and resilience.
In RE, we have explored the story of Creation in Genesis and discussed how it connects to the Psalms, helping the children understand how Scripture expresses praise for God’s work. We revisited what the children remember about Saint Francis of Assisi and learnt about his Canticle of Creation, reflecting on how it celebrates God’s presence in the natural world. Through this, the children have begun to think more deeply about the meaning behind being made in God’s image and what this teaches Christians about their relationship with God and with Creation.
Our science topic, scientific enquiry, has been a real highlight. The children carried out an experiment using a solar oven, learned how to take accurate measurements with a thermometer, recorded their results in a table, presented their data in a bar chart, and wrote a clear conclusion explaining what they discovered.
In geography, Year 3 have been finding out how many countries are in Europe and what makes each one unique. Using maps and atlases, the children have explored physical features ranging from snowy mountain regions to sunny Mediterranean coastlines, discovering how varied the continent is. We are beginning to learn the names of major European cities and the rivers that often travel through several countries.
Year 4 have settled back into school beautifully and have made a fantastic start to the new term. We have been very impressed with their behaviour for learning, enthusiasm and willingness to participate. It has also been lovely to see how kind and caring the children have been towards one another.
In English, we have been reading the exciting book How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell, which the children have thoroughly enjoyed. So far, we have explored the characters and designed our own dragons. We have also been developing our writing skills by using a range of grammar features, including similes, expanded noun phrases and direct speech. The children will soon be using these skills to write their own exciting adventure stories. We are looking forward to seeing their creativity and imagination shine through!
In Maths, we have been learning about numbers up to 10,000. The children have been practising how to partition numbers into thousands, hundreds, tens and ones, as well as placing numbers accurately on a number line. They have worked hard to develop their understanding of place value and have enjoyed applying their knowledge in different activities.
Our Science topic has been States of Matter. We have been learning about the three states of matter — solids, liquids and gases — and exploring the different properties of each one.
The children particularly enjoyed carrying out an investigation to answer the question: “At what temperature do different foods begin to melt?” We investigated chocolate, cheese and butter and compared their different melting points. This was a great opportunity for the children to develop their scientific enquiry skills and make observations based on their results.
In RE, we have been learning about the Book of Genesis, including the covenant between God and Abraham. The children have enjoyed listening to Scripture and developing their understanding of the stories and messages within it. We have also discussed what trust means and thought about people in the Bible who demonstrated trust in God. The children have shared thoughtful ideas and have enjoyed making connections between the stories we have learned about and the meaning of trust.
We are very proud of the wonderful start Year 4 have made to the new academic year. They have shown such enthusiasm, kindness and a positive attitude towards their learning.
Year 5 have had a great start to the year, adjusting well to new expectations and increasingly challening learning. In Maths, we have completed our unit on place value, using place value and gattegno charts, as well as number lines, to illustrate and consolidate existing knowledge. In both English and History, we have been learning about World War II, using the text Goodnight Mr Tom to learn more about the plight of evacuee children during this time, in particular how they would have felt and how their experiences as evacuees would have differed depending on their host families and destinations. We have also learned about the sequence of events causing World War II and the countries involved.
In Science, we have begun work on Forces, with the children using the scientific method to explore gravity and the impact of surface area on how much air resistance will act on objects. In P.E. the children have begun combining balances and movements into short routines, building upon exisiting skills learned each week.
In R.E, the children have been studying the topic of Creation and Covenant, exploring what a covenant is, how these can help us to live happy lives and how God made several covenants, including those with Noah, Abraham and Moses.
It is wonderful to see the enthusiasm Year 5 have for taking on additional responsibilities throughout the school, including Reading Ambassadors, Faith and Student Council, in addition to showing willingness to help around the classroom. It has also been great to see the children put such fantastic effort into learning their lines and songs for the upcoming Harvest Assembly and hope to see many parents there!
Year 6 have made a fantastic start to the new academic year and it has been wonderful to see how quickly they have settled into their new routines, responsibilities and expectations. They have worked incredibly hard throughout the first few weeks and have already shown great enthusiasm, maturity and determination. We have certainly packed a lot into our first month together!
In History, we have begun our exciting new topic on Victorian Britain. The children have enjoyed discovering what life was like during the Victorian era and have already explored some fascinating aspects of Victorian life. Our learning has been brought to life through our new class book, Street Child, which the children have really enjoyed reading. The story has given us lots of opportunities to discuss the experiences of children during Victorian times and has helped us to develop a deeper understanding of what life was like for people living in this period.
In Maths, we have been focusing on number and place value, revisiting and developing our understanding of larger numbers and the value of each digit. The children have worked hard to explain their mathematical thinking and apply their knowledge to a range of problems and challenges. In Science, we have started our new topic on electricity and circuits, investigating how circuits work and learning about the different components needed to make electrical devices function. The children have particularly enjoyed getting practical and testing out their ideas!
Our RE learning has focused on the Creation story, where the children have explored the biblical account of creation and considered some of the ideas and messages within the story. It has been lovely to hear the thoughtful questions and discussions that have come from our learning.
The children have also taken on some additional responsibility this year, with everyone being allocated their own school job. These roles give the children the opportunity to contribute to our school community, develop their independence and demonstrate the responsibility expected of our Year 6 pupils. We are looking forward to seeing them take their jobs seriously and become positive role models for the younger children across the school.
We also rounded off the month with our fantastic PGL trip! It was brilliant to see the children challenging themselves, supporting one another and throwing themselves into all of the activities. There were plenty of laughs, lots of excitement and, most importantly, some fantastic memories made together. We were incredibly proud of the way the children conducted themselves throughout the trip and how they encouraged and supported their friends. All of the photographs from PGL will soon be appearing on the school website, so keep an eye out for them!
And there is still plenty more to look forward to! Before the end of the term, we will be holding a special Victorian Day, giving the children the opportunity to immerse themselves in our topic and experience aspects of Victorian life for themselves. We are looking forward to making it a fun and memorable day, and I will keep everyone posted with more information as we get closer to the date.
It has been a very busy but hugely enjoyable start to Year 6. The children should be incredibly proud of everything they have achieved so far, and we are excited to see what the rest of the year has in store!

"The Family Group has created a space where my child can feel safe, unguarded, and comfortable enabling her to share and open up, make meaningful friendships, and talk about how she feels."
"I myself have met and bonded with some wonderful parents who are always ready and willing to offer advice and comfort when needed. I truly believe that the close-knit friendships in our group have enabled our children not only to be confident, happy and willing to share their emotions with us, but also created a stronger bond between parent and child."
We are delighted to share that several pupils (Sia Y4, Lyric and Samuel Y5) from our school have been shortlisted for the Kingston Through Your Eyes Art and Photography Exhibition. Their work will be proudly displayed at County Hall, Kingston on Saturday 3 October and Sunday 4 October, from 11am–2pm.
This exhibition is a wonderful opportunity for families, friends, and the wider community to come together and celebrate the creativity of young people across Kingston. Each entry will be displayed with the child’s first name, year group and school.
Visitors will also be invited to vote for their favourite entry as part of the People’s Choice Award. We would love to see as many of our families as possible attending and showing support for our talented young artists and photographers.
