In 1969 and 1970, the Zodiac Killer sent out four ciphers along with letters describing his crimes. The first sent on July 31, 1969, was cracked just a week later. But despite the breakthrough, ciphers Z13 and Z32 remained unsolved. Z13 and Z32 were 2 other notes the Zodiac sent. it took 51 years for codebreakers to crack the second cipher, called Z340. In December 2020, an international team of code-breakers finally cracked Z340. Fayçal Ziraoui claimed that he had cracked Z13 and Z32. The Zodiac Killer had sent the Z32 cipher on June 26, 1970, with a threat to “wipe out a school bus.” In this letter, it had coordinates not far from a school so Fayçal Ziraoui's prediction was most likely correct. Ziraoui used the same encryption key that he used for Z32 with Z13. it churned up “KAYR” — close to Lawrence Kaye, a longtime suspect in the Zodiac murders. Not everyone believes Ziraoui's code-breaking "powers" as people call them.
How many victims and who were they?
In 1968 a teenage couple was shot to death near their car in a remote area north of San Francisco; one year later another couple was attacked in similar circumstances, though the male victim survived. After the 1969 attack, the killer phoned police to alert them to the crime and to take responsibility for the 1968 murders. Later that year the Zodiac killer attacked another young couple, though once again the male survived. The last known victim, a taxi driver, was shot in October 1969. The names of the victims, their age, ad how many times they were either shot or stabbed are the following: Paul Stine, 30, was shot once in the head at point-blank range, Cecelia Shepard, 22, was stabbed 10 times, five in the front and five in the back, Bryan Hartnell, 20, was stabbed six times in the back, Darlene Ferrin, 22, was shot five times, and Mike Mageau, 19, was shot four times.
