Pirates have played a huge role when it comes to things in pop-culture. An example is the Pirates of the Caribbean series which currently has 5 movies out and a 6th movie currently in the works. Pirates of the Caribbean is a series of fantasy swashbuckler films produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and based on Walt Disney's theme park attraction of the same name. The film series serves as a major component of the eponymous media franchise.
However, most notably is One Piece. One Piece is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. One Piece is a manga/anime about pirates. One Piece even has some locations in it that are baed off of real places. The series has been serialized in Shueisha's shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump since July of 1997. The series spans over 1000 chapters and, as of September 2021, has 100 tankōbon volumes, with the 101st coming out in December 2021, making One Piece the 25th longest manga series by volume count. As of July 2021, One Piece has had over 490 million copies in circulation worldwide, making it the best-selling manga series in history, and the best-selling comic series printed in book volume. It is also one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time. To even add onto this a Netflix live action adaptation is in the works for One Piece.
