You wake up to the sound of the crackling of trees. You walk to your door to see what is causing the disturbance that woke you from your slumber. Then, you see the horrid sight: the orange sky that has smoke instead of clouds. A wildfire has surrounded your house. No one wants to deal with the stress of a wildfire happening at any moment. Ninety-five percent of wildfires are due to the decisions or items that humans make. California wildfires not only affect humans but affect the environment and economy. Wildfires burned four million acres of land in California in 2020 alone. The burnt trees and ash fill the air we breathe and the water we drink. Pollution endangers everyone’s health because plastic, chemicals, carcinogens, and other harmful items are present in the ash. The fires directly affect businesses and the economy because they will burn down workplaces or will displace people from a job. Luckily, society as a whole can help to prevent the damaging effects of wildfires. We can decrease the number of wildfires, help to save the environment, and slow down climate change. If you think that wildfires are California’s problem, think, How would I feel if I had to leave my home due to an unnecessary fire?
