What is the Holocaust?
The Holocaust was a genocide agianst Jewish people during World War II. Nazi German soldiers killed nearly six million Jewish people which is about two thirds of the whole European Jewish population between the years of 1941 to 1945.
What actions did people take to help the Jews escape? Were all the Germans against the Jews?
Denmark played a role in trying to help the Jews escape. They would organize Danish fishermen to take boats with thousands of Jews on them and bring them to Sweden. A group called “ The Quakers’ American Friends Service Committee” set up a relief activity for the Jewish people. It was mainly the Nazi’s that believed the Germans were more superior than the Jewish people. The German citizens themselves some of them did not like them but most of them did not care they thought they were ordinary people.
How many people died in the Holocaust & World War II?
It was believed that over 6 million Jewish people, and around 2-3 million other ethnicities died in the Holocaust. A grand total of 75 million people died in WWII with around 20 million in soldiers and 40 million in other civilians.
How did Germans define who was Jewish? How did the Germans treat the people?
In 1935 Nazi Germany made the Nuremberg Laws which would provide racial theories towards the prosecutions of Jewish people. Adolf Hitler announced this and then started the Nazi House party which is a group of soldiers in the German army.
What was the “Final Solution?” What was Hitler’s true purpose in World War II?
The Nazi’s used this term for a plan to annihalate the Jews throughout Germany. It led to anti-Jewish legislation and economic boycotts towards the Jews. Hitler wanted to make an invasion towards the Soviet Union. The other part of his plan was to exterminate all Jewish people. Antisemitism played a role in Hitler’s hatred towards Jewish people. There has always been hatred towards Jews even back in the Middle Ages. Hitler was a painter in Vienna, he had not liked them very well anyway until he had an altercation with some in his early years. There are many theories as to why he hated them like one is that he got a disease from a Jewish prostitute. Still, it is still unsure why he hated them so much but he made sure the world knew that he disliked them.
