About the Library

Mrs. Gehring: Welcome to the library. A bit of an introduction. I am the mother of four grown children and a grandmother of 2 boys. My mother-in-law, husband and my four children all attended St. Joseph Grade School. I have been the librarian here for 25 years.

I am a graduate of John Adams High School and Purdue University and have worked in libraries since I was in high school. Aside from working here at St. Joe, I have also worked in our local public library, Purdue University Libraries and University of Notre Dame Libraries.

I think I have the perfect job! I get to combine my love of books and technology and share both with students and staff. I hope you enjoy the library as much as I enjoy working here!

Mission for the Library

The mission of the school library is to provide an environment where students have access to resources and services that will enable them to become life-long learners and active participants in a dynamic society as well as thoughtful and ethical users and creators of ideas and information. The school library seeks to be an advocate for literacy and to instill a love of reading, in all it's varied formats, in all students.

School Library Standards

The American Association of School Librarians (AASL), a division of the American Library Association, is the guiding organization for developing school library standards and frameworks. The end goal of these standards is to "prepare students for life-long learning, informed decision making, a love of reading, and the use of information technologies."

For a more in-depth look at the standards, please visit AASL's standards framework, published on their website.
