Spelling Tests

OUR LAST SPELLING TEST IS WEDNESDAY, May 30.

Our 5 sight words for the test are: had, by, word, they, you.

At this point, most of the children seem to be having trouble with writing their lower case p, b, d letters backwards and putting capitals where they do not belong. Although I spend a lot of time teaching on this topic as well as giving a lot of hints during the spelling tests, this still seems to be an issue. Please spend some time reviewing these topics at home as well. Thank you.

Spelling tests will be held every Wednesday starting in March. We will let you know when they will begin by letter.

If a child is absent on a Wednesday, they will not be required to make up the test.

They will be graded and sent home for your signature. They must be returned to be filed the next day.

The spelling tests are made up of 10 words: 5 sight words and 5 phonetic words. The 5 sight words will be listed here on this website on the weekend before the test for you and your child to study for the coming Wednesday test. The 5 phonetic words will be sounded out by your child by the practice we have been doing in class and at home throughout the year.

*You may notice duplicates from week to week...that is to be sure the children really learn them.

Appropriate capitalization and letters facing the correct way will count since we will be practicing that as well.
