NCS Map

Once the mapping process has been completed the table on this page will reference projects which link to the Coding and Robotics competencies of the South African NCS document. 

Each project will will also indicate where it fits with the Coding and Robotics competencies as prescribed in the ATPs of the South African NCS document 

e.g. Grade 7 - R3, 4 & 7

Currently, the focus of this website is on physical computing for robotics so the coding competencies included in the NCS document have not yet been mapped. It should be noted that the level of coding required of the learners to complete these projects does in fact cover a highly significant proportion of the Coding competencies. Many of these links are suggested in the NCS document. The level of coding required by the projects outlined in this website is matched to the grade, so progression in learning coding constructs is also built into the work that the learners will cover. 

Note: Teachers must include the prescribed competencies and content in their Annual Teaching Plan (ATP), distributed across the four terms and sequenced, organised and grouped in a manner that will facilitate teaching and learning to maximize learning outcomes and attainment. This should be conducted in a way that makes optimal use of time and resources. A project based learning approach should be considered as a way to teach a number of competencies simultaneously through the learners developing a solution to a more ambitious and complex physical computing problem (the approach exemplified by this website).
