Following are character profiles to help you decide what you might like to audition for.
*The show will be set in 1990's New Zealand. Any accent is acceptable, The Artful Dodger being the exception - he will be British.
Oliver Twist Male or Female - Vocal range: A3-E5
A homeless boy, kind, resilient, and somewhat innocent. Approx 12yo.
Fagin Male (traditionally) - Vocal range: A2-F4
A 'big brother' figure who runs a crew. He is a criminal, but does look after the youth without anywhere to stay. Dynamic stage presence, quite an eccentric.
The Artful Dodger Male or Female - Vocal range: A3-E5
An intelligent teenager in Fagin's crew. Cunning, should have a British accent.
Bill Sikes Male - Vocal range: A2-D4
A villian,(abusive and cruel) approx 30, who is dating Nancy
Nancy Female - Vocal range: F3-E5
A female in her 20's, once associated with Fagin's crew and now dating Bill
Bet Female - Vocal range: Ab3-G5
A teenager in Fagin's crew, idolises Nancy, although she is from a disadvantaged background, she is spirited and kind.
Mr. Bumble Male - Vocal range: C3-Ab4
Traditionally a pompous Beadle, a member of the society/soup kitchen who is unkind. 35+ The actor needs to overpower others and have good comedic timing.
Mrs. Corney Female - Vocal range: C4-F5
A sharp-tongued, domineering widow 40+
Traditionally a workhouse mistress, possibly a caseworker in a modern setting.
Mr. Brownlow Male - Non-singing role
An older, wealthy, successful man.
Mr. Sowerberry Male - Vocal range: C3-F4
A middle-aged man who is an undertaker. Oliver goes to live/work for him. Unpleasant and ruled by his wife. Comedic timing required.
Mrs. Sowerberry Female - Vocal range: C4-F5
Mr Sowerberry's wife. A controlling woman.
Charlotte Sowerberry Female - Non-singing role
The teenage daughter of Mr & Mrs Sowerberry, who fancies Noah the apprentice
Noah Claypole Male - Non-singing role
Mr Sowerberry's apprentice, who is worried Oliver might take his position. Bullies Oliver and fancies Charlotte.
Mr. Grimwig Male or Female - Non-singing role
A Doctor - middle-aged.
Mrs. Bedwin Female - Vocal range: C4-B4
The Brownlow's Housekeeper
Old Sally Female - Non-singing role
An older, frail woman, with an important secret
Charley Bates Male - Vocal range: G4-C3
A boy in Fagin's crew
