Still unclear about auditioning?
We hope we’ve answered any questions you might have had about the show, auditions and how to book in for an audition. But just in case we haven’t, here are a few additional things you might want to know. If you are still unclear, please send us a message.
Who will I audition in front of and what happens at the audition?
There will be a panel of about 5 teachers (from both schools).
For an individual audition (for a named role) you will sing some of your prepared song, you will be asked to act out your prepared script, and you will need to show us a bit of dancing.
For a Chorus/Ensemble audition you will sing the National Anthem (you may be asked to sing a line or two on your own), read your prepared 1 line of dialogue, and you will need to show us a bit of dancing.
What dancing do I need to do?
The dance video is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkwfD0ulD6E
Don't worry if you aren't perfect, we just need to see that you have a bit of rhythm.
Will I have to sing the whole prepared song?
It depends. Usually we will stop you when we have heard enough. If you are brilliant we may only need a few lines, or we may want to hear lots for a specific reason. We may even get you to sing parts of your song again. It can feel really disappointing to get stopped early, but it doesn't mean you were bad - just that we had heard all we needed to hear.
What if I’m not auditioning for a specific role?
No problem. If you are not going for any particular part you will still need to be prepared to sing the National Anthem (in a small group), and do a few dance steps.
What if I can’t attend all rehearsals?
While it is essential that we have full commitment during the rehearsal period, there are often unavoidable clashes. If there are any rehearsals you will not be available for, let us know on your audition form and if we are able to, we will try to work these into the schedule.
What if I’m unavailable for the audition dates?
It is important that those wanting to audition be available on the audition dates, but if you absolutely cannot make it, please see Miss Quinnell (if you are at SJC) or Ms Jamieson (if you are at SHGC) and we will see if we are able to fit you in another time before the scheduled audition date but we make no promises.
Do I have to fill in an online audition form?
Yes. If you don't fill in the form you will not get an audition.
