I give participation grades, often per week to monitor how we are working on our assignments. Many of our projects span multiple weeks, so this helps me gauge if students are continuing to work as they should and apply effort. This is graded on a 10 point scale.
Participation grade rubric:
focused and on task (2.5 pt)
following instructions (2.5 pt)
cleaning up after themselves (2.5 pt)
using classroom tools appropriately (2.5 pt)
Assignment grades are based on finished projects. The standards for each assignment are given to students and reoutlined at the beginning of each class, so grades are applied per project. I often look for the effort applied and if the project is complete above all else.
Points are applied by 10 points per weeks spent on the project. So, projects that we took 3 weeks for will be graded out of 30 points.
I keep attendance and notes for these grades, so if there are any concerns throughout the year I add comments to interims or email home.
While these grade levels do not get official grades, I try to track things like fine motor prorgress, effort, and conduct to get a sense of what a student is achieving in class.
