Class Policies
Students have one week from when they return to school to turn in any work missed while they are absent from class. This includes students who miss class due to band. After a week, the work will be worth 50%, anything longer than that will result in a zero.
Any work turned in after it is due will receive a reduction of 50% of the earned score.
Any work turned in more than a week after it is due will not receive credit.
If a student is missing required materials for the class (an assignment, their notebook, their binder, etc.), they will receive a missing assignment slip. They will be allowed to return to their class for the missing materials. Missing assignment slips should be signed and returned the next day.
If missing assignment slips are not signed and returned:
4th/5th Grade students will receive an additional missing assignment slip.
Middle school students will receive a demerit.
Oops passes will not be distributed to intermediate grades for Spanish any longer.
No eating or drinking (other than water) in class.
Spanish Usage Expectations- Middle School students are expected to speak in Spanish when appropriate. Obviously, asking for help in English or clarifying in English is welcomed and encouraged. Students will receive constant support to help them be successful. This expectation focuses more on conversations that take place with classmates and are not related to academics. Increased immersion in a language is shown to greatly increase proficiency.
8th Grade will have a two week grace period, but will be expected to attempt to speak in Spanish after that.
6th & 7th Grade will have the first trimester as a grace period, but will be expected to attempt to speak in Spanish after that.
In accordance with St. Joseph School's rigorous academic expectations, students are not allowed to use online translators or AI to complete assignments.
Middle school students who use an online translator or AI to complete an assignment will be penalized for plaigrism, as it is not their own work. They will receive a zero and will be issued a demerit, which follows the SJS honor code. An additional offense will merit a detention.
Elementary schools students who use an online translator or AI to complete an assignment will be asked to redo the assignment on their own time for the first offense. Any additional offsenses, the student will be issued a demerit in accordance with SJS's progressive discipline plan.
Please understand that these policies are a direct reflection of the SJS School Policies. Our goal is to have your students prepared and ready to learn every single day. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me any time.
