5th Language Arts

What We're Learning About

Throughout the year, we will be using a variety of novels, a Scholastic magazine called Storyworks, and other resources.

Reading: We are reading our last book, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. We are also learning about the Greek gods and Greek mythology.

Grammar/Writing: We are learning about adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions.

GENIUS HOUR: This is a passion project where students will choose their own topic to investigate. We will be doing research and most of the work in class. Students will collect sources, develop notes, and create a presentation to share with the class.

Spelling/Vocabulary: We are focusing only on vocabulary during the last few weeks of school in an effort to prepare for middle school.

All ELA grades for grades 3-8 are weighted. This is the breakdown:
