Weekly Learning Topics

Thirty-Seventh Week of School (5/20-5/24)

Mrs. Lane's ducklings had a good week last week.  We have a lot of learning still left to do.  Students are being reminded to make "good, green choices" throughout our day as we finish up these last few weeks of Kindergarten.  SJA will hold their Spirit Week this coming week!   Please be sure to check your email as I sent our a reminder for the week or the weekly Wednesday SJA Newsletter with each days events for Spirit Week (5/20-5/24).  Ideas for vocabulary word ideas for Vocabulary Day on Monday was sent home this past week.  Please let me know if vocabulary word ideas have changed as I want to make sure that everyone has the correct vocabulary word attached to them for the school-wide parade in the morning.

As always, please continue to remind your child to make good, green choices throughout their school day and "Do the right thing at the right time".   Please be sure to read over the requirements in the Student Handbook for proper uniform attire that was sent home in the beginning of the school year.  There is also a link the handbook attached below.  Students should always wear socks that cover the ankle with their dress and gym uniforms.  Lastly, please remember to let me know if your child is having a rough morning by sending me a "Handle with Care" email.

Here are topics we will be focusing in on this week:

Reading/Word Work- Students will continue to work in the SuperKids Club where we will focus on more letters and sounds to help with reading and writing.  This week we will be working on Unit 17 where will be focusing on the letter Mm.  We will also continue to focus on listening to letter sounds to write words and write simple sentences.  With this the students will learn about sentence structure-capital letter to begin the sentence, punctuation at the end, and using capital letters for important names.  We are encouraging students to try to write more than one sentence to describe pictures they draw to explain and add details.  We will continue to use the  "Ice Cream" writing paper to help them with letter formation and writing skills.  Please view this video to help you child with the proper pencil grip Proper Pencil Grip for Writing

Math-This week students work on lessons in a new Mission.  Mission 5 focuses on numbers more than 10.  In Mission 5 Topic A, students will focus on making a group of 10 and adding more ones to make a number in the "teens".  We will use ten frames, cubes, sticks, and pictures to help identify numbers in the teens.  Please see the Parent Newsletter below for Mission 5 Topic A to be informed of each lesson's focus and new vocabulary being introduced.

Science- Students will continue with the unit of investigation titled-Exploring Time & Sequence.  Students are learning about sequencing.  With this, students are putting things in order using the terms first, second, third, last while making observations.  We will also review times of day-morning, afternoon, evening, and night as we will observe shadows made during different parts of our school day.

Social Studies- Students will learn and discuss how to stay safe in their neighborhood.

Religion-  Students work on a new chapter titled-Jesus Tells Stories.  In this chapter, students will discover that the Bible is God's special book and recognize that they listen to Scriptures in class and Mass that tell us of God's love..
