ELA
We will be expanding our learning about the conventions of English (grammar), vocabulary, reading skills, the writing process and public speaking. Students will understand figurative language, nuances in word meanings, increase writing skills using the Writing Process, make inferences about the text using clues from passages and literature, and expand vocabulary using context clues and vocabulary studies. Students will also present a Social Studies Research Project to the class using the skills learned from ELA and Social Studies. Next Week (9/22/25) will also begin read the book Eleven by Tom Rogers. This is a book about a boy who finds a stray dog on his eleventh birthday and decides to take care of it. On this day, everything changes as the main character, Alex, turns 11 on 9/11/2001. The story is thoughtfully told.
Social Studies:
We will be studying geography including map skills, locating places on a map, reading legends, using cardinal directions, using scale, and latitude and longitude. Students will also study landforms and how civilizations develop. We will then turn our attention to the study of the development of ancient civilizations of the Western Hemisphere this term.
