Dear Parents and Carers,
We are now in December and the Christmas excitement is building in St James.
Our events began this Tuesday with the visit from Chaplins Mini Pantos to perform Beauty and the Beast. The roars of laughter and singing could be heard all down the halls and it was a great start to our Christmas celebrations. Thank you to the Friends of St James who paid for this whole school treat. There is so much to come, with our Performances beginning this week with EYFS and Year 1 on Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th December. We hope you all have your tickets, but if not, please do get in touch with the office on office@stjames-weybridge.surrey.sch.uk and they will be able to help you.
In other news, our amazing St James Choir has been out performing this week to bring the Christmas cheer to the community. Their performance run began with the Christmas Light Switch on at St James Church on Sunday 1st December, and then they wowed crowds on Weybridge High Street as they sang outside Gails Bakery. At the end of last week, the Year 5 choir visited Silvermere Care home and today the full choir headed to Morrisons to sing for the shoppers. Thank you to Mrs Cowden for all her efforts in teaching the choir and providing them with so many opportunities to show their talents.
Christmas shows
We are busy preparing our Christmas performances and the children are enjoying getting into the Christmas mood. EYFS and Year 1 will be performing this week to audiences. We cannot wait to see the show.
For the Year 2 performance, Year 3 and 4 Carol Service, and Year 5 and 6 Carols at the Church, we will be trying to be more sustainable and therefore will not be issuing physical tickets for the events. Instead, we will hold a sign in list on the door with the number of allocated tickets and we will tick you off on entry. We look forward to seeing you all at these festive events.
In other exciting news:
Our Entrance hall has been revamped with our new mural. We are thrilled with our new welcome wall in the reception area as it puts our vision and values at the heart of the school.
Coming soon: We will shortly be responding to parent feedback by providing a photo wall of all staff in the entrance hall to help with identification.
Girls Football
Our Year 6 Girls Football team attended Royal Holloway Football Festival two weeks ago. From all reports, all the children played very well and demonstrated their school values, showing respect in both the competitive and friendly matches. Well done Girls and thanks to Mr Sawyer for coordinating the team.
Reception Post Box Visit
Well done to our Reception classes, Chicks and Ducklings, who all visited the local post box last week to send their Christmas letters. I know the staff were so impressed with your behaviour and respect as you walked.
And finally,
We would like to remind to all parents that we had added an additional open afternoon this year and it is this Friday 13th December at 3pm. Parents and Carers are invited to visit classrooms at the end of the day and look at their children's books. For this day, collection for all KS2 classes will be from external classroom doors.
For parents and carers of children in Reception, please come and view your child's work in the Aviary.
We look forward to seeing you all there so the children can show off their hard work from the term.
Kind regards,
Mrs Murphy

Weekly reminder - for parents/carers, that if they take their children out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive), then you will be liable for a penalty notice fine
1. If you have not incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children in a rolling 3 year period since 19 August 2024, then the penalty notice will be charged at the rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. This will be reduced to £80.00 if paid within 21 days of receipt of the notice. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.
2. If you have incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children since 19 August 2024, the rolling 3 year period will be activated from the date of the first penalty notice and the second penalty notice will be charged at the flat rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. There will be no reduction for payment within 21 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.
3. If you have incurred 2 penalty notices relating to this child/children in the rolling 3 year period since the first penalty notice was issued, then you will NOT receive a third penalty notice – Surrey County Council will have no option but to consider a prosecution, per parent/carer per child, in the Magistrates Court under s 444 Education Act 1996.
Surrey County Council is not responsible for authorising pupil absence and therefore cannot withdraw any Penalty Notice requests without the written permission of the Headteacher.
