Dear Parents and Carers,
All the children and staff are continuing to work hard here at St James and we cannot believe how quickly the half term is flying by. We have been busy with our prospective parent tours for new Reception starters 2024 and are receiving fantastic feedback about how well the children behave as well as how confidently our Year 6 Tour guides talk about our amazing school.
Values Certificates and Counter Collection
We would like to introduce the new values certificates that will be awarded weekly at St James. As parents will remember we refreshed our vision and values at the end of last year.
To embed these in the school even further and help us to teach the children how important they are in life, we will be awarding children certificates if they excel in showing a particular value. Along with this, we have a new values counter which will allow us to keep track of how many of the values have been shown across the school.
This week we awarded:
RESPECT: Y2 Emily and Ayanshi Y5 Ryan
New Sheds
I would like to sincerely thank all the parent helpers who supported us in dismantling the 4 old sheds and erecting the two new sheds onThursday, Friday and Saturday last week. We are truly grateful for the time they all gave to help us with this.
Infant Playground installation
We are thrilled to have the new play panels arrive today for the Infant playground. Whilst these could not be used today at lunchtime due to drying concrete, the excitement has already started to build. They will be a fantastic addition to our KS1 play space.
Thank you to the Friends of St James who funded these and all the parent community for your contributions to the fundraising effort.
Democracy in action! School Council Elections this week.
This week the children in Years 2,3,4,5 and 6 have been voting in our polling booth for their school council. As part of their revision of the Birtish Values, the children have been learning about Democracy. Over the next week all children will receive a free book about Parliament.
Parents Consultations
We would like to remind all parents that parent consultation booking has gone live. Next week on Friday 13th October is our book share session for children in Year 1 - 6 from 3pm. If you are unable to make this time, please do get in contact with the Office to see if we can arrange a time for you to view your child's books.
Parents of Reception, we look forward to welcoming you to the shared learning phonics sessions 8.45am – 10am on 10th and 11th October.
Holiday club - Bookings open
Our new holiday club provider, Youngstars Holiday Club, is running at St James this October Holiday and during the Christmas holidays. They are running whole day childcare sessions for a competitive price. To book, please use this link.
Harvest
Kind reminder to parents and carers that we are asking for donations of non-perishable items for our Harvest Festival on Tuesday 10th October.
The foodbank have specifically requested the following: tinned fruit, tinned vegetables, tinned soup, tinned tuna, pasta sauce, sponge pudding, tinned custard, biscuits, long-life milk and squash.
Thank you in advance for your support with this.
Warm Welcome
We would like to welcome Mrs Doe who will be supporting St James in her role as Family Support Worker. Mrs Doe has a wealth of experience supporting families and will be available on Tuesday mornings at St James or via phone following a referral form completion. If you would like to access this support, please email familysupport@stjames-weybridge.surrey.sch.uk or complete the form here.
There will be an opportunity to meet Mrs Doe at the coffee morning on Tuesday 10th October 8.45am - 9.45am.
Extra curricular trips and visitors
Over the last two terms at St James, a number of our school trips and visitors have run at a loss to the school. At St James, we wholeheartedly believe that a school trip, residential or workshop adds to the experience of the curriculum delivery and the teachers and the office team work hard to be able to organise such a range of complementary activities to support our delivery of the National Curriculum. These are intended to enhance the curriculum delivery so we are priviliged to be able to offer such a range for the children.
When we plan an extra curricular activity, the voluntary contribution represents the cost of providing this activity, shared equally amongst all pupils in the year group. As there are no extra school funds to cover school trips and visitors, sadly, moving forward, proposed visits may not be able to take place if there are insufficient voluntary contributions to cover the cost of the visit. If parents are experiencing financial difficulties and are not able to pay for the trips, we always ask that they make contact so that we can provide any support we can. This can be done confidentially through the office or on the new familysupport@stjames-weybridge.surrey.sch.uk email address.
Wishing you a lovely weekend.
Mrs Murphy.

The Children’s Commissioner for England has recently launched ‘The Big Ambition’ to hear directly from children, young people, and parents across the country.
This is an opportunity to hear from all children, in every part of the country and in every setting. The survey will be used to encourage policymakers to think about children and young people’s needs, to ensure children’s voices are reflected in the decisions that will affect them in years to come.

We would like to remind all parents that we are a Nut Free school here at St James. Whilst we appreciate the efforts parents take to support us in maintaining a safe lunch hall, we would like to raise the profile of hidden nuts in some food coming into school.
The brands outlined below all contain hazelnut spread, which is not allowed in school. Please could all parents consider the ingredients in the snacks they purchase to help us keep all children safe.
We would also like to remind all parents that we are looking to promote healthy eating and therefore will be reviewing our lunchbox policy over the next few weeks.
