Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been so lovely to see so many parents and carers at St James for all the summer events.
Sports Day was a huge success with all children taking part in competitive activities. We are very proud of the inclusive nature of our sports day and it was so lovely to see how much the children engaged in these activities. Thank you to all the parents who came to support on the day and to those who have sent messages to say how much they enjoyed the occasion. Congratulations to Seacole house for winning the Sports Day cup this year.
Sporting Successes
As you may have read in our newsletters over the year, our list of sporting successes are growing year on year here at St James. Because of our growing number of trophies, we have installed our very own trophy cabinet in our entrance hall this week. As I am sure you can imagine, this has caused much excitement with the children (and staff!) Please do come and have a look when you are next in school.
Celebration of Learning Assemblies
We have been stunned by the talents of St James children this week as they have all started to take to the stage for their celebration of learning assemblies. The purpose of these assemblies are to demonstrate the broad scope of National Curriculum learning the children have completed over the year. At St James we teach our curriculum subjects discretely to allow for children to have the knowledge and deep understanding that will prepare them for secondary school and wider life.
To provide some examples of what was talents were displayed: Year 3 shared their French and History knowledge; Year 4 shared their Design and Technology and Science understanding; Year 2 displayed their recorder playing skills and Year 5 wowed with their singing, dancing and their knowledge of all the counties of England. Well done to all the children and staff for these excellent performances!
Looking ahead
Next week is our Year 6 Production, which I know will be a fabulous show. The rehearsals and the props are coming together nicely and we cannot wait to see all the children 'let their light shine.' We have Year 1 and EYFS taking to the stage for their celebration of learning assemblies and Y4 and Y5 showing off their ukulele talents is their summer showcase.
Other key dates for parents and carers:
Monday 7th July, Parents and Carers in Years 1,2 and 4 will be notified about the new class shuffles.
Tuesday 8th July, we have the Y4 and 5 Ukulele Summer showcase.
Friday 11th July, Parents and Carers will receive their child's school report. A letter will be sent to explain some of the changes this year.
Monday 14th July, we will be announcing the new teaching teams and class teachers.
Tuesday 15th July will be our St James Transition day where children will get to meet their new teacher and spend the morning in their new classroom.
Our last day of term is Friday 18th July and this will be a 1.30pm finish. There will be no Sunset club or externally run clubs on this day.
Summer Fair
Looking ahead to this weekend, we hope lots of children, parents and carers are able to join us at St James for the School Summer Fair. Thank you for all the donations over the last week and to the Friends of St James for their organising efforts. I know this will be a fantastic event. Staff will be running the bottle tombola, so we will see you all there.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

If your child is in KS2 and has a school meal, please remember to pay for and book their meals in advance using SCOPAY.
Weekly reminder - for parents/carers, that if they take their children out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive), then you will be liable for a penalty notice fine
1. If you have not incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children in a rolling 3 year period since 19 August 2024, then the penalty notice will be charged at the rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. This will be reduced to £80.00 if paid within 21 days of receipt of the notice. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.
2. If you have incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children since 19 August 2024, the rolling 3 year period will be activated from the date of the first penalty notice and the second penalty notice will be charged at the flat rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. There will be no reduction for payment within 21 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.
3. If you have incurred 2 penalty notices relating to this child/children in the rolling 3 year period since the first penalty notice was issued, then you will NOT receive a third penalty notice – Surrey County Council will have no option but to consider a prosecution, per parent/carer per child, in the Magistrates Court under s 444 Education Act 1996.
Surrey County Council is not responsible for authorising pupil absence and therefore cannot withdraw any Penalty Notice requests without the written permission of the Headteacher.

Attendance
The Government released two longitudinal studies on the impact of low attendance on future attainment and on future earning this week. Please see the two posters which demonstrate their findings.
Thank you to all the parents who support us in aiming for positive school attendance. Our current school attendance figure is 95.4% which is above National and Surrey level.
