A Message from Mrs Murphy
Dear Parents and Carers,
I do hope you all had a lovely Easter Holiday.
On our INSET day last Monday, the staff all completed a Restorative Practice training which is a strategy to encourage the children to be part of their resolution for their disagreements. This training is forming part of our development of our Behaviour Policy and we will be asking parents for their contributions and thoughts to this in the near future. Date to follow.
DISCO
Thank you to the Friends of St James and all the parent volunteers who helped at the St James Disco last week. The children had a fantastic time and there were lots of amazing outfits and dance moves. Thank you also to the staff who volunteered to help in their own time.
Playground changes in KS2.
Our playing field is now back in action for KS2 lunchtime and we are very excited to be able to make full use of our large school grounds. To ensure that all children have access to a range of activities, we will be allowing football on a rota system and have also invested in additional large skipping ropes to encourage activity at lunchtimes. To ensure safety for all children, we will be providing suitable balls for the children to use so please discourage the children from bringing in additional balls as these will not be allowed to be used.
We are very excited to begin to use the new climbing frame on the KS2 playground. All children in KS2 have had a lesson on correct use of this with Mr Sawyer. Thank you to the Friends of St James for funding this fabulous new addition. Please could I kindly remind all parents that children should not be using our playground equipment at the end of the school day.
Wellbeing at Breaktimes
The Year 5 and 6 Wellbeing Ambassadors will be holding drop in sessions during lunchtimes in the Hagrid Hut for children who want to talk. In the KS1 playground, we have established a new Quiet Area to provide additional activities for the children who do not want to run around.
We are now looking at further options to develop the KS1 playground, so watch this space!
Kind regards,
Mrs Murphy
Sun Policy
As we start our Summer term, and we hope the sunshine will come out, I would like to share our Sun Policy with parents. Please take note that we encourage factor 30+ sunscreen to be applied to children before they come to school, ideally a long lasting sunscreen. If this does need to be reapplied, parents may send a named bottle of suncream into school and we will encourage children to apply this themselves when needed. We will also be doing lessons and assemblies on Sun Safety in school. During summer months, all children should have a named sun hat, ideally with a protective backflap. Children will need a water bottle in school daily to ensure that they keep hydrated.

Plants and Seed Mufti Day
Thank you for all the donations of plants and seeds last Friday. We collected over 300 packets and look forward to seeing them grow over the coming weeks.
Parking
Please could we remind parents to park safely and considerately outside the school. This includes not parking on the yellow zigzag lines or in front of the school vehicle gates.
Thank you
Coronation Celebration - Friday 5th May
To celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III, we will be having our own Coronation celebrations on Friday 5th May.
All children will be taking part in activities linked to the Coronation of King Charles III throughout the day.
They are also invited to come into school on Friday 5th May in their own clothes. The theme for this mufti day is red, white and/or blue, similar to when we had our Jubilee celebrations last May.
Our caterers, Twelve15, will be providing a special picnic lunch on this day. Please see the menu poster attached.
If your child usually has packed lunches, but would like a special picnic lunch on the 5th May, please ensure you have ordered one via Scopay BEFORE the end of the day on Thursday 4th May.
Attendance
Thank you to parents for supporting us to improve our school attendance.
Our School target for attendance is 96%. Our current attendance at St James is 94.11% as of the 28th April.
Year group totals are as follows:
Year R: 92.57%
Year 1: 92.92%
Year 2: 94.93%
Year 3: 94.00%
Year 4: 96.11%
Year 5: 94.45%
Year 6: 93.73%
Whilst we know that children get ill, and some absence is unavoidable, please do consider your child's learning when requesting leave from school for term-time holidays.
Parent Governor Elections
Thank you for all those parents who voted in the Parent Governor Elections. The votes are currently being checked for legitimacy and we hope to be able to inform candidates soon on the result. We will then inform the parent body of the successful candidates.
