Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended parent consultations last week. We hope that these were valuable meetings and provided you with an overview of your child's attainment at school. If you were unable to make the appointments, the class teachers will be making phone calls and sending home your child's target sheet. Please look out for this.
There has been so much going on at St James over last two weeks.
Hindleap Warren
Earlier this week, Year 4 headed to Hindleap Warren on their school residential. From all accounts, they had an amazing time full of excellent activities led by the Hindleap team. These included high ropes, climbing, archery and very muddy team building activities. All children showed St James courage as they stayed away from home for two nights and were so well behaved. Well done to all the children, we are so proud of you all! This trip could not have gone ahead without the dedication of the staff team who accompanied and supported the children to create these lasting memories. Thank you to Mrs Rao, Miss Batterbee, Mrs Martinez, Mrs Bull, Miss Boyle, Miss Punter and Mrs Lawrence for their hard work in making this such a successful trip.
Red Nose Day
Today we were all dressed in red to celebrate and raise money for Red Nose Day 2025. The School Council, supported by Mrs Sykes, led a fantastic assembly which was filled with so much fun and laughter. As a school, we refected on the courage of Billy Monger and his fantastic achievement in raising so much money and awareness for this cause. Thank you to all families who have donated on the gate this morning; we received £259 in donations! If you would like to make a further donation directly to Comic Relief, you can do this using this link.
Eco Club visit
Today a group of Eco Club members headed to Churchfields to support the MP Dr Ben Spencer and our Governor, Councillor Pippa Graeme, in their efforts to keep Weybridge tidy. The children were given a dedicated area and all set off with high vis, litter pickers, bin bags and gloves to take up the challenge. It was so lovely to see their excitement and enthusiasm for doing this volunteering task. It was a true demonstration of our value of Unity as they worked together to make the park a better place for others. Thanks to Mrs Procter, Mrs Bubb and Miss Punter who supported the children in this activity. Well done to everyone!
Attendance
The Government released two longitudinal studies on the impact of low attendance on future attainment and on future earning this week. Please see the two posters which demonstrate their findings.
Thank you to all the parents who support us in aiming for positive school attendance. Our current school attendance figure is 95.1% which is above National and Surrey level.
Station Art
We were thrilled to be asked to provide more artwork for the waiting room at Weybridge station and we have updated this today. All children in the school had the opportunity to create pieces for these displays as part of this art curriculum enhancement.
We do hope that families enjoy viewing this art when they next visit the station.
Free School Meals - Ever 6 Applications needed
As was sent via email yesterday, we do strongly encourage parents to submit an application for Free School Meals by next week to allow St James to process these ahead of the potential change in the qualification period.
As per the email, the Government has yet to confirm if the 6-year funding support (FSM Ever6) will continue for anyone after 1st April 2025, and this will possibly be replaced with a shorter support period, or one which will be removed if circumstances change.
Therefore, if you feel you may meet the criteria, please complete and return the Free School Meals application form by Wednesday 26th March, to secure this funding.
Fond Farewell
Finally, we are wishing Miss Peacock a fond farewell as she takes up a new teaching position at another school, closer to her home. Miss Peacock has been a dedicated member of the St James team and we wish her all the best for the future.
Wishing you a lovely weekend.

Weekly reminder - for parents/carers, that if they take their children out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive), then you will be liable for a penalty notice fine
1. If you have not incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children in a rolling 3 year period since 19 August 2024, then the penalty notice will be charged at the rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. This will be reduced to £80.00 if paid within 21 days of receipt of the notice. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.
2. If you have incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children since 19 August 2024, the rolling 3 year period will be activated from the date of the first penalty notice and the second penalty notice will be charged at the flat rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. There will be no reduction for payment within 21 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.
3. If you have incurred 2 penalty notices relating to this child/children in the rolling 3 year period since the first penalty notice was issued, then you will NOT receive a third penalty notice – Surrey County Council will have no option but to consider a prosecution, per parent/carer per child, in the Magistrates Court under s 444 Education Act 1996.
Surrey County Council is not responsible for authorising pupil absence and therefore cannot withdraw any Penalty Notice requests without the written permission of the Headteacher.

Parenting Courses
We have been sent the following informnation about parenting courses to support families.
4-week Talking Teens programme: Wednesday evenings 1830-2000, 23 April-14 May 2025, online - fully funded for anyone parenting that lives in Elmbridge & Spelthorne Boroughs
What is the 4-week Talking Teens Programme?
Teenagers are rewarding, stimulating and fun, but being a parent of one can be stressful and challenging. The Talking Teens Parent Group helps deal with those challenges so you can have a calmer, happier family life. A tried and tested Programme, it helps us think about what we do, why we do it and how it makes us feel and looks at questions that many parents have, like: How can I stop my child always getting the last word? Why do they always sleep in so late? Can I do anything to help them argue less? What’s normal? Why don’t they want to tell me how they’re feeling? Inside every teenager is a child and an adult.
The Four Sessions:
1. Being a parent of a teenager ; The role of parents for teenagers ; Responding to difficult feelings
2. Understanding your teenager ; Understanding teenage development ; Parenting styles ; Praise and criticism
3. Communicating with your teenager ; Talking and listening ; Communicating clearly ; Handling difficult issues
4. Managing conflict ; Rules and boundaries ; Choosing how to respond ; Problem solving
