A Message from Mrs Murphy
Dear Parents and Carers,
It was great to see all the children in red today as we came together as a community once again to support a good cause. On first count, it is looking like St James has raised £563.75 so far for Comic Relief which is absolutely fantastic.
Thank you to all the parents who came to view their children's work this afternoon. The school was buzzing with excitement as the children got to show off all their hard work this term!
Next week is the parents consultations, which are being held in person. If you are yet to book an appointment, please book using the Schoolcloud system. As you will remember from the letter dated 2nd March, we will be holding all parent consultations in the hall. Parents are asked to arrive a few minutes before their appointment and make their way to the hall side door. As we are trying to ensure we keep to time, if you do have any additional questions about your child's progress, which you are unable to discuss in your 10 minute session, please do email the class teacher who will reply as soon as possible.
Communication changes:
In light of feedback on the parental questionnaire in September about the number of ParentMails, we will now be using this newsletter for non-urgent communication which are applicable to all children in the school.
We will also be enhancing our communication to parents when children have accidentally hurt themselves at school. From Monday, if your child has been to the medical room for an injury, the will receive a yellow form. This form will outline what has happened and what treatment was given. For significant injuries and all head injuries we will continue to inform you by phone.
St James welcome:
We would like to welcome Mrs Wyeth to the St James Teaching Assistant team. Mrs Wyeth will be supporting in Kingfisher class and Kestrels class.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
Kind regards,
Mrs Murphy
Coronation Bench Competition
As part of the preparations for the King's Coronation, all St James children had the opportunity to work collaboratively in groups to design a coronation bench.
After a long and hard judging process, the following designs were submitted to the Historic Royal Palaces for judging.
If any of these designs are successful, they will be made into a real bench which will be put at the Tower of London and then donated to the successful school.
Attendance
In December we published our new Attendance policy and sent information to all parents about detrimental effect poor attendance can have on children's learning and progress.
We are seeing an increase in the number of children who have attendance under the 90% level at St James, which can lead to referrals to the Local Authority Attendance and Inclusion team as well as your child having gaps in their learning.
Whilst we know parents cannot help children being ill, we do have a high percentage of unauthorised absences, mainly from parents taking children out of school for term time holidays.
Please do consider your child's learning when booking any holidays which may require your child to miss school.
Our School target for attendance is 96%. Our current attendance at St James is 94.5%
Parent Governor Applications
This week we did send out a letter about the Parent Governor elections.
Our Govenors act as our critcial friends and a crucial in driving school improvement by providing challenge and support from a range of industries, not just education.
If you are interested in becoming a Parent Governor, please see the attached letter and candidate form.
Information about our current Governing Board can be found here.
Mixing it up in Music: Year 6 Compositions
We were wowed this week by Year 6 and their music mixing skills. As part of their learning about using IT in music with Mrs Evans, the children have been donning their headphones and mixing different tracks on our Music Platform, Charanga. They have composed pieces using online software, considering beat, dynamics and texture.
Thank you to Sophie, Leena, George and Max who agreed to share their creations with the whole St James community. Please click the links below to have a listen to their creations. I am sure you will agree these tracks sound very professional. Well done to you all!

Sporting Achievements at St James
Year 5 Football Tournament
Football Cup Match v Ongar Place
On Tuesday 28th February St James football team played quarter final cup match at home against Ongar Place School. From the start to the finish the game was very competitive with two even teams. Early goals were scored by both teams making the score 1-1 at half time with George scoring the St James goal. In the second half the game continued to be well contested and became more end to end. Ongar Place again managed an early goal in the half but St James came back instantly with good play that resulted in an own goal. The score was 2-2 at full which meant extra time had to be played. After extra time the score remained 2-2 which then took the game the penalties. Penalties scored by Sam and Matty along with some brilliant goal keeping from Harvey meant that after 3 penalties each, St James won 2-1.
The team was: Matty, Max, Joe, George, Sam, Leo, Harvey, Lewis, Danny.
The next fixture is being organized and will be the cup semi-final against Cardinal Newman.

Exciting KS2 Playground Development
We are very grateful to the Friends who have funded new climbing frame for the Junior Playground. This will hopefully be installed during the Easter holidays so that all children can enjoy it during the Summer term.
We have consulted with experts and have chosen this particular installation to provide opportunities for children to improve their core strength and and upper body strength. It also provides additional play challenge for the KS2 children.
