Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you to all the parents and carers who have supported our in school events over the last two weeks.
It was lovely to see so many parents at our Open Afternoon today and the children are always so thrilled to be able to show off their work. If you were unable to see your child's book today, please contact the Office so they can arrange another time for you to see your child's work.
We are looking forward to seeing all parents at our parent consultations next week. Please remember that we do aim to run to time, with the help of our bell, so we would recommend you arrive a few minutes before your scheduled appointment.
Maths Curriculum Workshops
We were stunned by the turnout for our Maths Curriculum sessions and we have received so much positive feedback on these from the community. We are so glad that these have been useful and we have attached the presentations here for you to review again at home. I would like to thank Miss Chadburn for all her hard work putting these together along with all the House Captains and children who provided amazing demonstrations.
Book Swap at our Little Library
As part of our continued commitment to sustainability, we are so pleased to unveil our new Book Swap. Made by the Weybridge Men's Shed, this mini library has been catching the attention of so many children over the last few days. The idea is to encourage the community to exchange, or borrow books. We have started off the collection, but parents and carers are welcome to help themselves to what is on offer, or bring in some books to donate.
New KS1 Playground refurbishment
You may have noticed some activity on the KS1 playground as we have refreshed our climbing equipment with new safety flooring. Not only does this provide a extra layer of protection to the children as they play, it also brightens up the playground. The children have been very excited to try out the new surface this afternoon.
Save the Date: Lantern Festival
On Sunday 30th November, we have been asked if the children of St James will lead a new lantern festival in Weybridge High Street ahead of the light switch on. This is a new event that will follow the Christingle service at St James' Church. It would be lovely to have a large number of children to help carry lanterns that we will be making in school, so please save the date for this event. We will send out more details when we have them from the organisers.
Mental Health Day
Thank you for all donations today for Young Minds charity. We all enjoyed wearing yellow today to highlight the importance of Children's Mental Health. So far we have raised £303.67 for this good cause.
Road Safety
As we have launched our Walk to School Initiative at St James, we are keen to gather parent views on the road safety outside St James. This will help us review our Travel Plan and support our regular discussions with Surrey County Council on making the roads outside St James as safe as possible for the community. Please share you views on the survey here: https://forms.gle/TGdrrLA8AVRGDw1z7
With Road Safety in mind, please could I remind all parents and carers that we do not allow parking in front of our school gates. We would also request that parents are considerate of our neighbours when parking as we have seen an increase in the number of complaints recently about parental parking. Thank you for your support in this.
We're excited to announce that St James CofE Primary School is now on Instagram! This is a fantastic way for you to stay connected with school life. We'll be sharing photos and videos of school activities and events, and glimpses into daily school life at St James.

Wishing you a lovely weekend.

Weekly reminder - for parents/carers, that if they take their children out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive), then you will be liable for a penalty notice fine
1. If you have not incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children in a rolling 3 year period since 19 August 2024, then the penalty notice will be charged at the rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. This will be reduced to £80.00 if paid within 21 days of receipt of the notice. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.
2. If you have incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children since 19 August 2024, the rolling 3 year period will be activated from the date of the first penalty notice and the second penalty notice will be charged at the flat rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. There will be no reduction for payment within 21 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.
3. If you have incurred 2 penalty notices relating to this child/children in the rolling 3 year period since the first penalty notice was issued, then you will NOT receive a third penalty notice – Surrey County Council will have no option but to consider a prosecution, per parent/carer per child, in the Magistrates Court under s 444 Education Act 1996.
Surrey County Council is not responsible for authorising pupil absence and therefore cannot withdraw any Penalty Notice requests without the written permission of the Headteacher.

Attendance
The Government released two longitudinal studies on the impact of low attendance on future attainment and on future earning this week. Please see the two posters which demonstrate their findings.
Thank you to all the parents who support us in aiming for positive school attendance. Our current school attendance figure is 95.4% which is above National and Surrey level.
