Our nursery is committed to supporting children on their journey from little acorns to mighty oaks through nurture, play and the respecting of their rights.
Through our experiences and interactions, we aim to develop children’s knowledge and wellbeing, celebrate their achievements, inspire their creativity and promote their independence.
At St Mary's Nursery, we are leaders of outdoor play. We have a qualified Forest Leader amongst the staff and so we understand how important the outdoors are for children's development. Their expert knowledge ensures that forest days are nurturing, educational and lots of fun for children in the nursery.
Our nursery is just 5 minutes away from one of the most nurturing spaces in Dunblane - Holmehill
Our Forest days at Holmehill take place each week where we spend the morning building dens learning to use tools and light the fire. We also climb trees, spend time in our hammocks and take part in forest bathing.
Children who have taken part in our forest days during their time at nursery have grown in confidence and self-esteem. They have developed knowledge of how to safely light the fire and use of tools.
At St Mary's, we offer a holistic, play-based approach to learning; we ensure every child has the opportunity to achieve success in their learning and development. 'Play is the work of childhood' - Jean Piaget (c.1950s) - through play, children learn about themselves and the world around them, they learn how to process emotions, develop their body, their language and STEM skills and also their social skills.
Our planning is child-led and we use the Stirling Council Play & Learning Framework to assess children's development.
Our nursery is a rights respecting nursery, we understand how important the child's voice is and we ensure this is part of our planning and reflection processes. We believe in equity and offering all children the opportunity to achieve and succeed in our environment.
Each area of our nursery has been designed to be rich and nurturing for children.
We have a dedicated nurture space for when those little moments of calm are needed.
Each area has been curated to provide a breadth of curriculum. Each space has literacy and numeracy embedded within it.
'Chilled' is a word used often by adults who come to our nursery! We use natural light, play soft music and our environment is decorated in muted tones to promote that feeling of calm.
