The School of Sport is a player-centered programme that incorporates a holistic approach to developing each individual and providing them with the tools to improve as a performer and more importantly, as a person.
The overarching aim of the programme is to provide each performer with a platform to flourish within their chosen sport and to nurture this enthusiasm, creating confident and responsible student athletes. Performers use sport as a vehicle to develop resilience, build confidence and improve skills, such as teamwork and cooperation.
The School of Sport offers 5 key programmes. Football, Basketball, Rugby, Dance and Swimming. Pupils are extracted from mainstream classes and receive 3 sessions per week with a range of highly experienced coaches. Our state of the art facilities contribute to the professional ethos of the programme, allowing pupils to experience learning in a high quality teaching environment.
The bespoke curriculum offers performers the opportunity to study a range of factors that impact them as they perform, such as fitness, skill development and tactical considerations. Each performer will participate in termly target setting workshops, allowing coaches to tailor the programme to meet their individual requirements and support performance development.
Fitness and skill related testing, alongside video analysis software, allows performers to measure baseline performance, specific to their individual sporting requirements. Re-testing throughout the session allows each individual to track and monitor improvements, providing key next steps.
The curriculum is complimented by a series of workshops, delivered by professionals in each specific field. Key topics include, Nutrition and Hydration, Injury Prevention, Growth Mind-set and Sports Psychology. Performers benefit from working with a range of external partners, including The University of Stirling, Chris’s House Mental Health Charity, Physio Focus Physiotherapy and a range of professional athletes.
Performers are expected to meet the high expectations of the programme and are required to attend a weekly lunchtime study session and utilise this time to catch up on classwork missed. Performers are also required to represent the school in extra-curricular activities, within their chosen sport and across the whole-school at wider events.
Performer progress is monitored and shared through a variety of means. Regular tracking reports are issued, alongside the School of Sport Parents Evening, where performers are provided with detailed feedback from their coach, highlighting key areas of improvement.
The performers School of Sport journey is accredited through the Dynamic Youth Award at the end of S3. Performers use a variety of self and peer assessment to complete personalised targets in order to achieve the award.
