On October 17th, the SMS NJHS students hosted a community wide Halloween Trick or Treat event. This event is designed for elementary and early childhood aged students. The SMS NJHS officers plan and organize this event. The NJHS students collect candy donations, create trick or treat stations and help run games. The turn out this year was massive! Way to go NJHS students.
Volunteering looks a little different in a world with COVID-19. Seventh grader, Callan Logan, didn't let a pandemic and distance learning stop him from spreading cheer. Callan made cards and snow globes for 24 senior citizens. He delivered his gift bags to the Villas of Oak Park Heights. His gifts made such an impact that one resident called SMS looking to thank him. She said it truly brightened an overall sad year. She collects snow globes and is looking forward to adding Callan's to her collection. Way to go Callan!
On Friday, October 25th the Stillwater Middle School National Junior Honor Society hosted an Elementary Halloween Celebration. The event was designed for students in elementary school and at Early Childhood. The night consisted of trick or treating, spooky games, face paint, henna tattoos, a cookie monster walk, Acapulco dinner, and two Halloween movies.
National Junior Honor Society officers planned the entire event. They reached out to the community for donations, hung flyers, contact school PTA's, planned games, scheduled Acapulco for dinner, designed a door decorating contest to get the school Halloween ready and so much more. National Junior Honor Society members volunteered to set up, clean up, run game booths, and hand out candy. The students poured their hearts into this event and truly made it magical for the young kids that attended.
NJHS would like to extend a HUGE thank you to anyone that attended, donated, volunteered, or helped with this event. We couldn't have done it without you.
Thank you for supporting Operation Gratitude - Shop, Ship, Share. We had our most successful year to date. We packed 60 priority flat rate boxes to be donated to our men and women serving overseas. Each box was packed with a variety of items from coffee, to personal hygiene, to snacks. The 6th grade red team even wrote personal letters to send along in the boxes. There is no doubt that these boxes will spread holiday cheer.

The 2017-2018 National Junior Honor Society 8th grade students created the Stillwater Snack Shack. The initial goal was to raise money for hurricane relief victims in Texas and Florida. Students were able to raise and donate $550 to the American Red Cross for hurricane relief in just two days. The idea was such a big success, students continued using the Stillwater Snack Shack throughout the year. Money was donated to a variety of causes including cancer research, Reeces Rainbows, Support Our Sharks, Animal Human Society, World Wildlife Fund, St. Jude Medical Center, Twin Cities Homeless Shelter, and more.
