6th Grade Music Electives
Beginning level instruction in flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, and percussion for sixth students with no previous experience.
Students will learn self-discipline at the highest level by participating in band. Their social skills, communication skills, self-concept, cooperative talents, and creative mind will all be nurtured through their study in band. These life-skills will serve as an important foundation as they take on various responsibilities in their future.
Throughout the year, students will perform at three concerts as they grow and develop as young musicians.
Options regarding how to purchase and/or rent an affordable quality instrument will be presented at the beginning of the school year.
Requirements for instrument purchase/rental, uniform and necessary equipment for class (shoulder rest or rock stop, tuner, cleaning cloth, rosin) will be addressed in August of the student's 6th grade year. At that time students are encouraged to rent an instrument from Oklahoma Strings, Tulsa Violin Shop, or a reputable on-line shop such as SharMusic or Robertson's Violins. School-owned instrument loans are possible on request.

Students will develop correct posture, hand position, bowing, care and maintenance of their instrument.
Identify notes and rests, clap, count and read rhythms, identify major and minor scales, chords and intervals.
Perform in group concerts and contests
Option of participating in solo/ensemble contests.
Students are required to purchase uniform and necessary equipment for class (shoulder rest or rock stop, pitch pipe or tuner, mute, clearing cloth, rosin).
This year-long class is non-auditioned chorus for those 6th grade students who are interested in singing. Students in this class will have the opportunity to participate in Circle the State with Song Region C Honor State Choir, as well as other performances. Students will learn music reading and vocal techniques, while singing a variety of music and styles. The class is for the singer who wants to be challenged, while having fun! For 7th grade, students must audition and be selected before being enrolled in this course. Auditions will take place each spring for the upcoming school year.

6th Grade Explore Elective:
Students rotate to a new course every 9 weeks
Introduction to Engineering is an advanced course designed to give students an introduction to Engineering. Students will learn the design process, learn technical sketching, and work with professional CAD software in order to generate 3D computer models. The 3D computer models will be used to produce a 3D printed prototype of a student designed desktop novelty item. The students will also be introduced to robotics. Student will apply mathematics, study of gear ratios, and computer science concepts in order to design, build, and program robotics systems that complete a variety of functions.
Learn the elements of art, how to use them to create art, and how other artists used them in famous masterpieces.
Explore various techniques and media: paint, chalk, ink, oil pastels, etc.
Analyze and critique personal artwork as well as famous masterpieces.
Become familiar with various famous works of art, eras, and styles.
Opportunities to exhibit artwork and enter contests.
Instruction is related to the season and will include some but not all of the following:
Flag football, Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer, Ultimate Football, Ultimate Frisbee, Badminton, Wiffle Ball, Kickball, Team Handball, Fitness/Mental Health, Safety and Injuries, Growth and Development, Life Skills, Running/Stretching, and Dance/Zumba
Students will learn and demonstrate various computer skills while applying them to real world experiences. Computer fundamentals, word processing, web browsing, communicating online, presentation software, multimedia, databases, and spreadsheet units will be covered. Students will also practice coding.
This is for students currently in the Gifted Talented program and requires district testing to qualify. Throughout the course, students will work through projects and self-guided assignments to strengthen the following skills:
Logical Thinking, Creative Problem Solving, Creativity Analysis, Critical Thinking, Thinking Fluency, Creative Writing, Creative Reasoning, Problem Solving, Working Independently, and Imaginative Thinking.
Extended Studies will take the place of Computers Exploration for GT students.
7th Grade Elective Choices:
This is a rigorous course for 7th grade students with no previous band experience. Beginning to intermediate level instruction in clarinet, trumpet, and trombone. Students will be expected to progress quickly on their instrument in order to join the 7th Grade Advanced Band after the first semester.

Admittance into this class is subject to director approval.
Students will continue to hone and perfect the skills learned in beginning band as they continue their journey in the Stillwater Band Program.
During this exciting year, students will transition their focus from individual musicianship to ensemble performance as they will perform at multiple concerts and contests throughout the year.
They will also have the opportunity to participate in solo and ensemble contest and all-region honor band auditions.

Intermediate level instruction in violin, viola, cello, and bass for 6th and 7th grade students with at least one (1) year previous orchestral experience, private instruction, and/or permission of the instructor
Continued emphasis on correct posture, hand position, bowing care and maintenance of their instrument
Continued emphasis on notes and rests, rhythms, major and minor scales and chords and intervals, and develop vibrato
Continued emphasis on ensemble pitch, balance, blend, and tone quality characteristic of their instrument and the total ensemble
Learn to tune their instruments individually
Perform in large group concerts and contests
Option of participating in solo/ensemble contests and honor orchestras
Students are required to purchase a uniform and necessary equipment for class (shoulder rest or rock stop, tuner, mute, clearing cloth, rosin).

Students learn the engineering design process, from defining a problem to redesigning a solution. They explore energy and its environmental impact, including renewable sources and conservation. The class also covers robotics mechanics, such as mechanical systems, circuits, programming, and sensors. Students design, build, and program robots through hands-on projects while applying these concepts. This class provides a foundation in engineering principles, energy awareness, and robotics. This class is very project-based and teamwork-oriented.
Students will receive a problem-based, team-based introduction to computer science, including how to design, program and use computing devices to solve real-world issues. They will also design algorithms and learn important computational thinking practices, code and upload programs to computers doing real tasks, and solve personally relevant problems using wearable technology, interactive art, or mechanical devices.
Students explore the fascinating world of disease and diagnosis. They learn to measure and interpret vital signs, investigate the causes and spread of diseases and pathogens, and study the dynamics of epidemics. The curriculum also covers foodborne illnesses and their prevention. Hands-on learning includes dissecting and exploring the heart and brain, providing a deeper understanding of human anatomy. Finally, students delve into forensic science, examining techniques like fingerprinting and blood spatter analysis to solve medical mysteries.
Theatre Arts will introduce students to the basic concepts of acting, public speaking and production. Students will participate in creative drama techniques to build confidence and trust, stimulate imagination, movement, and character development. In this class, we use games and activities that target public speaking skills and provide opportunities for students to gain trust and confidence in themselves. Students will have the opportunity to work in chroma keying and video editing to produce classroom drama/theatre works.
Students enrolled in the Musical Theatre class will concentrate on acting and musical theatre vocal technique. Students will experience an introduction to acting, vocal music, and performance technique. This course will provide opportunities for students to strengthen vocal ability, music reading skills, dance techniques, and acting. In addition, students will learn performance etiquette, communication skills, how to build an ensemble, and how to produce a quality musical theatre production in a fast-paced environment. There is an audition process to be selected. This class is NOT on the enrollment paper. Once the application window closes, counselors will adjust rosters based on selections.

Students selected for a student assistant position will be placed in one of three locations: library, office, or with a classroom teacher. Student aides MUST maintain good behavior and MUST remain eligible. Students who do not meet these requirements may be removed from their aide position.
