Class overview
Visual art is a significant expression of human culture. Through visual art, we develop skills for perceiving, analyzing, appreciating, and responding to the visual environment. We will explore art as a whole and gain great "knowledge nuggets" from it!
Classroom Expectations, Guidelines and Responsibilities
1. Each student is expected to comply with all school rules (See student handbook.)
2. Arrive to class on time, prepared and ready to start work when the bell rings. Do not wait for me to ask you to prepare for class.
When you come in, get any portfolios or materials that may be used regularly and get to your seat. Class sizes are large and space is limited. The fewer people moving around the better.
Materials used in class regularly ( portfolios, drawing pads, ect. Will be determined as we we move forward with upcoming classes)
3. Respect your-self, other students, teachers, and substitutes.
No talking during morning pledge, moment of silence and announcements or while the teacher is instructing, do your part by paying attention. Respect the desire and rights of others to hear the announcements.
4. Attend class regularly. Many experiences cannot be made up and it takes a lot of time to make art. Each class you miss is time to make up! This becomes huge when missing many school days. Check my Google Classroom DAILY.
5. Follow all safety rules and procedures. No horseplay in the classrooms.Respect fellow students’ and their art projects by looking but not touching, even if you have their permission. Accidents happen, and you wouldn’t want anyone putting their fingerprints on, or dropping and breaking your artwork.
6. No food allowed in the classroom. Bottled drinks/water bottles with a secured lid are allowed.
Bottled drinks, personal items, folders ect. should be placed on the floor under your seat.
7. Backpacks are not allowed in class and should be in your locker.
8. Each student is responsible for clean-up.
There will be time set aside to allow for students to clean-up before the end of class. This includes picking up any paper/trash on the floor around your work space. Table tops should be cleared and wiped down at the end of class. Be sure your chairs are pushed under before leaving. RETURN ALL BORROWED ART SUPPLIES TO THEIR DESIGNATED AREAS.
After the room and individual work areas are cleaned, stay seated. I will check tables after cleanup, and dismiss you when this task is completed. Art can be messy so do your part to keep the art room clean.
9. No one just sits-EVER. If you finish the class assignment early, you are to work on your next drawing, or ask me how you may help in the classroom with organization and upkeep.
10. Any student who chooses to throw, damage or waste materials will not have the privilege of working with those materials. The project will be graded as is, and an alternative assignment may be given. Supplies are expensive and needed by all of my classes so please be respectful of them. RETURN ALL BORROWED ART SUPPLIES TO THEIR DESIGNATED AREAS.
11. Students are expected to get their supplies and return to their seats to work. There is no lingering or visiting other tables. You are expected to use your time wisely and for art class assignments.
12. Please use the bathroom in between classes. If you need to go during class, you need my permission, sign out, and take the pass when you go. Sign in along with time when you return. If you are gone for a longer than reasonable amount of time, the office will be notified. You are responsible for missed instruction.
13. Phones may be used during class time for the following:
To look up information that pertains to art class
When working on art projects headphones and music may be allowed
Phones may NOT be used during class time for the following:
Gaming during class when you should be working on assignments
Texting friends/chatting
Making TIK TOKS or any other videos or social media uploads (do it on your own time not during class.)
Due Dates and Responsibilities
Students are responsible for completing each assignment in class on or before the due date. The entire class will begin each new assignment at the same time, regardless if the previous project is finished or not.
Makeup work must be completed on your own time or if finished with the current assignment you may use the remaining time in class to go back and finish.
The same goes if you should happen to use the bathroom, or be taken out of class for any reason. You are responsible for getting the information you missed, first, by your chosen classroom “art buddy,” during studio time, and second if you have further questions from me.
Absence and Tardy Policies
All work must be made up after an absence. It is the student’s responsibility to make up all the work missed, including notes, quizzes, and tests per the student handbook.
You are responsible for getting the information you missed, first, by your chosen classroom “art buddy,” during studio time, and second, if you have further questions for me.
Each student will have an “Art Buddy” to contact in and outside of class, as an additional resource for makeup work.
