TO REQUEST YOUR COURSES:
Step 1 - Review the information on this website, consider your own path to graduation and what credits you still need to obtain (hint: You can find this on StudentVue under Course History!)
Step 2 - Talk with your family and teachers about what courses would best meet your needs and future goals
Step 3 - Use the Forecasting Planner to plan out the options you will select
Step 4 - Complete the Student Forecasting Survey!
Step 5 (optional) - Parent completes the Parent Forecasting Survey
Parents must use the emailed parent link, which is independent from the Student Survey link.
Grade 10-12 Surveys are due by Friday, March 14th.
Grade 9 Surveys due by Tuesday, March 18th.
Each student will only be able to submit their Forecasting Survey ONCE! You should not complete the Survey until you are sure of which options you want to request.
Parents can complete an optional Parent Forecasting Survey. We strongly encourage students and parents to have conversations about their course placement requests. However, parent requests will ultimately trump student requests.
Students are NOT guaranteed to receive the courses that are requested. Course placement will depend on: Diploma requirements, course schedule availability, staffing assignments, and individual learning needs. We do not place or change student schedules based on preferred teachers.
For example, you will be asked for your 1st choice of Elective class, your 2nd choice, and your 3rd choice. We will try our best to assign you to your 1st choice request.
Are you ready to complete your survey?
Frequently asked questions:
Do I have to take a survey if I know I am moving to a different school next year? Yes, every student should complete a survey even if they know they are going to be attending another school next year. We know plans change sometimes and it’s better to get signed up for classes you want, just in case you end up staying at SHHS.
If I really want one specific class, can I just put that as my first, second, and third choice? You can, but it’s a bad idea. If that class is full or doesn’t work in your schedule, your counselor will have to guess what else you might like, and she’s a bad guesser. Better to give her some options so you get something you are interested in.
What if I don’t get my first choice of class? Sometimes this happens. It could be that the class didn’t fit in your schedule, doesn’t meet your graduation requirements, or isn’t being taught this year. We will always try to get you in your top choice, but sometimes it isn’t possible.
I heard I can only fill out the survey once - what if I change my mind? Yes, you can only fill out the survey once, so take your time in really thinking about what courses would be best for you. If you start a class in the fall and decide it’s not for you, your counselor will have office hours during the first week of classes for you to see if there are other options. However, there’s no guarantee that your schedule can change after it’s already made, so it’s better to be sure about your choices BEFORE you complete your survey.
What if I didn't complete a course last year? Do I have to retake it? YES. If you don't pass one of your core classes, you will need to retake the course in order to finish the required credit. You will lose one of your elective options in order to retake the missing class.
