Welcome to a wonderful, educational, and faith-filled school year! 

*Important Information:

• All students should be in class by 8:00 am or they are marked tardy.

• Students are expected to be respectful to one another and follow classroom and school rules.

• Students need to hand in assignments on time in order to receive full credit.  Homework passes/extensions may be used for certain assignments. 

• Take-Home Folders need to be checked and emptied each night, then returned the following school day. Please check for any notes on the front.

• Test Folders need to be signed and returned the following school day.

• Students should remember their usernames and passwords for their Google accounts and other programs used in class and homework.

• Tests, quizzes, projects, classwork are posted on PowerSchool.  

• Homework and important news is posted on Teacher Board.

• Students should strive to use proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling whether typing, printing or when using cursive writing. 

*Student Grading: 

Students grading will be comprised of the following:

*Participation/Classwork- 10%    *Quizzes- 25%                                                                                                                                         *Projects- 25%     *Tests- 40%

*Discipline-  Students are challenged to become more responsible, and work more independently.  We expect each student to try their best, respect each other, and to follow classroom directions and school rules without reminders.  

To encourage proper behavior, the school’s “three strike policy” is detailed in the front of the yearly calendar.  The goal is to make our classroom and school a positive work environment where students can grow and thrive.  Incomplete assignments will be completed during recess time.   If a student is missing work due to sickness, they have three days to make up missed work.

*Positive Reinforcement- To help promote peace and a great learning environment, our RESPECT class pledge spelled out is: “Random Acts of Kindness,  Everyone Counts, Safety First, Please and Thank You, Everyone is Accountable, Cooperation/Teamwork,  and Take Responsibility”.  For student rewards, each class will have the chance to earn “free time” when class “good behavior stars” reach our weekly goal.  For students that have incomplete work, they will finish these assignments first before they earn their reward.   

*Homework- Homework is posted on our Teacher Board each night.  

 Homework is assigned to reinforce skills that will be assessed in the future. 

 It is important that each student completes assignments and reviews classwork nightly.  This will help them recall important information more easily and help them grow as responsible students.  All assignments are posted on each teacher's Teacher Board, including special classes. Students are responsible to pack-up any materials they will need to bring home in order to complete assignments, and then return all items to school the next day. The front of the green folder has a Monthly Calendar Chart that is for communication between teacher and parent.  Please check this nightly.  Feel free to leave notes here that I need to see.

*Daily Schedule- Students are expected to be in their classroom by 8:00am to begin morning work.  Those who come after 8:00am need to use the front doors of the school and report to the office.  Please make every effort to be on time each day. When a student is absent, please fill out the white absent form and return it to school. 

*4th Religion- Students use the series Christ Our Life which is a workbook that emphasizes Scripture, the Mass, the Sacraments, the Liturgical Year, the 10 Commandments, and the Beatitudes.  Religion vocabulary is posted in Quizlet for review.  Homework includes re-reading lessons, workbook pages, packets and projects.  Assessments include packets, quizzes, chapter review tests, Google forms and projects.

*4th Math- Students use the series My Math.  Topics include place value, addition and subtraction problem solving, multiplication, division, geometry, measurement, fractions, and decimals.  Students will also have assignments on-line with IXL.  Math vocabulary is posted in Quizlet for review.  Homework includes workbook pages, reviewing vocabulary, and IXL lessons.  Assessments include quizzes, chapter tests, and on-line assignments such as IXL lessons and Google forms. Three times a year, students will have the MAP assessment standardized test. 

4th Science- Students use the textbook Science- A Closer Look.  

We will explore topics such as Earth and Its Resources, Weather and Space, Matter, Forces and Energy.  Science vocabulary is posted in Quizlet for review. Homework includes re-reading lessons and notes, reviewing vocabulary and flashcards, workbook pages and packets. Assessments will include tests, quizzes, Google forms, experiments/labs, and our yearly school-wide STREAM project.

*4th Social Studies-Students use the textbook Regions which covers the five regions of the United States and includes American geography, government, and history. We also cover two special topics- Washington DC- Government and our Rights/Responsibilities and New Jersey- Past and Present, which focuses primarily on our state’s uniqueness.  Social Studies vocabulary is posted in Quizlet for review.  Homework includes re-reading lessons and notes, reviewing vocabulary and flashcards, workbook pages and packets.  Assessments include packets, quizzes, chapter tests, Google forms and projects.  We have one major project during December and January which is our Washington DC Project.

*4th Handwriting- Each student has a handwriting workbook that reinforces cursive writing.  Four pages in the handwriting notebook are assigned weekly.  In June, all students are responsible for handing in their workbooks completed properly and neatly.

WELCOME TO 4rd GRADE LANGUAGE ARTS 

Dear Parents & Guardians, 

I’m so excited to be working with you this year! ��

 I’m new to St. Helena School, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to join this wonderful community. I’m looking forward to getting to know each of your children and supporting them as they grow as readers, writers, and thinkers. �� Each afternoon, from about 12:30 to 1:30, I’ll be spending time with your child during Language Arts, where we’ll build strong literacy skills—and have fun while we’re at it! �� 

Language Arts Block Breakdown: 

�� Daily Grammar & Phonics (20 mins): We’ll start each session with focused, bite-sized grammar and phonics practice to help strengthen foundational language skills. 

�� Novel Study or Journeys Textbook (40 mins): Most months, we’ll dive into a class novel together! These books will be assigned for purchase ahead of time, and all information will be posted on my Teacher Board on our school website. 

When we’re not exploring a novel, we’ll be working through the Journeys Common Core Student Edition (Grade 4) for rich, engaging reading and comprehension lessons.
