On the left, there is a summary of the selection timeline. Follow the links below for more information.
During Wednesday PC meetings, students will be involved in workshops organised by Heads of Department. The purpose of these workshops is to give students a detailed understanding of each of the electives on offer.
On Wednesday 11 September there will be an Online Electives Information Evening in which parents and students will find out more about Stage 5 and the process of choosing electives.
Students can begin submitting their elective preferences and will have until 20 September to complete their submission.
Students will find out which electives they will be studying during Week 4 of Term 4.
A digital version of the handbook can be found below.
Students are also given a hard copy in PC.
In the past, students have studied 2 x 2-year electives.
Now, students will choose 1 x 2-year elective AND 2 x 1-year electives (one studied in Year 9 and the other in Year 10).
This means that you can experience more electives in preparation for Stage 6.
There will be three Electives workshops. During these workshops, we will talk about making good choices and the process. You will also hear from Leaders of Learning about each of the Electives being offered.
This session will be a fantastic way to find out all about Stage 5 Electives.
This is a compulsory online session for all Year 8 students to view.
During the session, you will hear more about the electives process and Stage 5 courses.
Students will need to submit a digital form.
Where to find the Digital Form.
You will be sent an email that will take you to our Web Preferences Manager. Here, you will select your electives.
Make sure you complete the second page of the Web Preferences Manager. You will need to sign (typing your first name is fine). You will need to make sure you press the green submit button at the bottom of the document.
Save a PDF or print a copy of your Web preferences.
DEADLINE
If your forms are not submitted by the deadline, you may not get your preferences for next year.
You will be asked to list preferences for both your Major and Minor Electives. Be prepared to study any one of these preferences.
While every effort will be made to allocate students in their highest preferences, students may need to accept lower preferences.
The order of preference is IMPORTANT. Students should place the courses most important to them higher in the preference order.
Students will only be able to study two (2) Industrial Technology electives.
Maximum class sizes apply in all electives. When more students apply for an elective than maximum class sizes allow, positions will be based on merit.
Late submission of the form may have an impact on the electives that students will be allocated.
Why do I need to choose preferences?
Sometimes courses are not offered. Sometimes courses you want are on the same line as other courses or a class may be oversubscribed. Either way, having preferences ensures that you will get the electives you chose.
Will the College run two classes if one becomes full?
Yes but only if there are enough students for two classes.
Why might a class not be offered?
An elective will not be offered if there are not enough students who chose it.
