Year group focus - Year 2

In Year 2 we have been very lucky to have a visit from Zoo Lab. Elena brought with her 5 exciting creatures to look at, handle and find out about. We learnt loads of interesting facts about Colin the Cockroach, Cornflake the Corn snake, Diesel the Millipede, Florence the Tarantula and Dottie the Leopard Gecko.

Year group focus - Year 6

Year 6 have been working very hard to create a silhouette of themselves on to a 50p ready for our jubilee celebrations.

Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

On Friday 27th June, we had a very special day in school, celebrating Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee. We dressed in red, white and blue; learnt about the queen throughout her reign; had a celebration picnic together; and took part in lots of fun activities and games. We have made a big display in school that will be going to the church to show some of our fantastic work. Look out for more about our celebrations in our next newsletter after half term!

Athlete visit

On 5th July, as part of the 'Sports for Champions' scheme, we will be raising money towards the scheme's partner charities and for school equipment. Your child should have already received a sponsorship form with all of the details on it. On the day of our fundraising we will be visited by sprinter James Dasaolu. Please see more about James and the scheme below.

Online safety

National Online Safety produce online help guides known as #wakeupewednesday to keep children safe online. This week's guide is about the sharing of inappropriate content across different platforms.

Creepy characters like Slender Man or Huggy Wuggy. Dangerous online challenges. Songs or videos that aren’t suitable for youngsters. When things like these begin trending online, it can be difficult to prevent children accidently stumbling across them – especially if they use a range of platforms, like online games, social media, streaming sites or messaging apps. A trend can originate in one online space and rapidly spread to other platforms or via chat apps. The frightening Huggy Wuggy character, for instance, first emerged as part of a game on Steam; now there are parody songs on TikTok, videos on YouTube and more than 45,000 results for #huggywuggy on Instagram.

In the guide, you'll find tips on a number of potential risks such as accidental exposure, inappropriate language and unsuitable videos.

National Online Safety have now produced an app with lots of useful advice, support and guides around being safe online. Find out more by going to https://info.nationalonlinesafety.com/mobile-app
