Year group focus - Year 2

In year 2 we have been continuing to practice our times tables. Here is Class 4 singing their 3 and 4 times tables.

Football update

On Thursday after school, our Year 5 and 6 football team played two competitive matches against Dunholme St Chad's. The first game was a tightly contested 0 - 0 draw and the second was a 2 - 1 defeat with Devlin scoring the St Giles goal. The children did a great job as always representing the school in a sporting way. A big thank you to Mr Finn for organising the game and Mrs Daly for driving the minibus.

Safeguarding

As a school community we must remember that keeping our children safe is everyone's responsibility. We always appreciate your support and thank you for reporting concerns when you see or hear of incidents outside school.

Together we Can Tackle Child Abuse

The government has launched a campaign called 'Together we can tackle child abuse'. The resources, aimed at everyone in the community, could be used with parents and include four very short videos explaining physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, neglect and online abuse.

The simple mnemonic, ABC, is used to remind people that they should look out for changes in appearance, behaviour or communication. The webpage has a search engine to find out where to report abuse.

Online safety

National Online Safety produce online help guides known as #wakeupewednesday to keep children safe online. This week's guide is about loneliness online.

Does a child you know ever feel lonely when they’re online? In a study by the UK’s Office for National Statistics, 14% of 10–12-year-olds said that they DID often feel lonely – so any child experiencing those feelings is, sadly, far from unusual. To support Mental Health Awareness Week – which this year has the theme of ‘loneliness’ – we spoke to a group of children and teenagers, who told us some of the things that make them feel isolated when they’re online. They also suggested some ways they use technology to make themselves feel better when that happens, and we’ve compiled their ideas into a loneliness-busting #WakeUpWednesday guide.

In the guide, you'll find tips such as taking breaks, playing single-player games and listening to your favourite audiobooks.

National Online Safety have now produced an app with lots of useful advice, support and guides around being safe online. Find out more by going to https://info.nationalonlinesafety.com/mobile-app
