E-Safety and safeguarding

Online safety

National Online Safety produce online help guides known as #wakeupewednesday to keep children safe online. This week's guide looks at what you need to know about Yubo.

Yubo is a social networking platform where users can chat and livestream with up to 10 friends at once. People can connect with others based on location, with a Tinder-style ‘swiping’ mechanism to accept or reject someone based on their profile pictures. The app has approximately 50 million users worldwide – but despite its popularity, Yubo has not been free from controversy. While the app claims to monitor inappropriate content, a newspaper investigation in early 2022 found young users being exposed to sexual harassment, racism, bullying and conversations with adult themes.

National Online Safety have now produced an app with lots of useful advice, support and guides around being safe online. Find out more by going to https://info.nationalonlinesafety.com/mobile-app

Mini Police

Our mini police have been very keen to promote recycling this week and have led assemblies to encourage the children to do the same. They are running a competition to design a badge to promote recycling in school.

Helping the people of the Ukraine

As the current situation in the Ukraine continues to escalate and receive more news coverage, it is understandable that our children might be worried and/or interested in what is happening. We understand that this may be a very difficult situation to discuss with children and there are some tips and advice around this at the following websites:

How To Talk To Your Child About The War In Ukraine (YoungMinds)

https://www.youngminds.org.uk/parent/blog/top-tips-for-talking-to-your-young-person-about-the-events-in-ukraine/

How our community have helped

Following a lovely letter from one of our year 4 pupils we set up a collection items for those affected by the war in Ukraine.

All the collected items will be taken to the Zamość unit and from there distributed between Polish borders accordingly.

We have received some incredibly generous donations of all kinds of helpful and useful items and we would like to say a huge thank you for your kindness.

Year 6 help stop Food Waste!

Some of the Year 6 children volunteered to help set up food for the Food Bank at the Methodist Church on Wednesday. They were amazed at how much food would have been wasted if it wasn't saved by John and his fabulous team. They were also surprised to find that it would be given away for FREE to anyone who wanted it. Please do speak to someone if you are struggling to get food as we would always like to help. One of the children commented "That was hard work but fun!"
