What are we reading?

Last week in school we have celebrated the poetry of Benjamin Zephaniah in a whole school poetry week. Each year group has studied his poetry and gone on to write and perform some of their own poems using his style.

As part of our enjoyment of reading, each class has a class novel that they read every day. Here is a list of what each class is reading:

Foundation 1 and 2 are reading a range of books linked to their learning, including: The Hungry Caterpillar, Mad about Minibeasts, Superworm, Oi Frog, Jack & the Beanstalk, Chicken Lickin' and The Enormous Turnip.

Following the success of the Easter Times Tables Rock Stars and Numbots Competition, we are holding another competition. From Friday 30th April, over the bank holiday and until Friday 7th May, we want to see who can earn the most coins or points in their class.

Before Easter we learned the poem, 'Please Mrs Butler,' by Allan Ahlberg. We loved reading the silly things Mrs Butler said, looking for the rhyming words and finding all the patterns in the poem. We learned every single word and added some actions to help us to remember it in the correct order. Here is our recital. We hope you like it!

Well being and community

As a school, we receive information from an organisation called Parents And Autistic Children Together (PAACT). Congratulations to this week's stars of the week, they are:

FS1 - Jessie for trying really hard with his writing and being keen and enthusiastic to learn.

FS2 - Oscar for growing in confidence and becoming an independent learner

Busy Bees - Phoebe for showing enthusiasm in all of her work this week but especially in maths.

Class 1 - Artioma has been noticed by Miss Walton in phonics. He is shining and helping his partner in phonics when they are finding something tricky.

Class 2 - Olivia for being an amazing independent learner in Maths and trying really hard to work without support.

Class 3 - Arnas for excellent progress in maths and his determination to work independently.

Class 4 - Freya for working incredibly hard in every lesson and because of this she is becoming really successful in all aspects of her learning.

Class 5 - Ethan for working hard everyday and becoming more independent in class.

Class 6 - Harley S for his incredible effort and attainment in maths.

Class 7 - Aston for contributing to lessons, and showing real engagement in all subjects and especially maths fluency and Geography
