ART ENRICHMENT PROJECTS FOR ALL STUDENTS


KINDERGARTEN: DRAW PICTURES OF OCEAN CREATURES. To count to ten in Japanese, say ichi (pronounced "each") for one, ni ("knee") for two, san ("sahn") for three, shi ("she") for four, and go ("goh") for five. Then, say rok ("loh-koo") for six, shichi ("she-tchee") for seven, hachi ("ha-tchi") for eight, kyuu ("kyoo") for nine, and juu ("joo") for ten.

Arigato (R E GAH TOE) means “thank you” in Japanese. Konnichiwa (koh-nee-chee-wah) is the most common way to say "hello" in Japanese. Sayounara (SIGH O NA RAW) is "goodbye". Sensei (pronounced sen-say) is "teacher".

DRAW YOUR OWN KOI FISH KITE. BE SURE TO MAKE IT COLORFUL!

Start your own Nature Sketchbook inspired by Beatrix Potter.

OAXACAN (WA-HA-CAN) MEXICAN sculptures are beautifully carved animals made in the Oaxacan region of Mexico. They are very colorful many designs!

Print and color the coyote or curved lizard below.

2ND GRADERS: MAKE SOME JIM DINE HEARTS TO CUT OUT AND PIECE BACK TOGETHER. BE SURE TO USE DIFFERENT MATERIALS (MARKERS, COLORED PENCILS, CRAYONS). ASK YOU FAMILY TO MAKE ONE TOO SO YOU CAN MIX THEM UP! Send photos of your family's hearts and I will post them!


MAKE AN "OP ART" ARTWORK! OP ART: Op art, short for optical art, is a style of visual art that uses optical illusions. Op art works are abstract and often include GEOMETRIC SHAPES. Typically, they give the viewer the impression of movement and depth.

PRINT AND COLOR THE BLOCKS BELOW. YOU CAN USE 3 DIFFERENT COLORS ON EACH "BLOCK" TO GIVE AN OPTICAL ILLUSION OF DEPTH.

3RD GRADERS: MAKE AN ARTWORK INSPIRED BY WASSILY KANDINSKY. USE MATERIALS YOU HAVE AT HOME (CRAYONS, COLORED PENCILS, MARKERS).

THIRD GRADERS, LOOK AT THE KANDINSKY IMAGE BELOW. IT CONSISTS OF A SERIES OF ABSTRACT SHAPES. THINK OF THESE IMAGES AS MUSIC NOTES. LISTEN TO SOME FAVORITE MUSIC AND DRAW A COMPOSITION THAT USES SOME OF THE KANDINSKY ABSTRACT SHAPES. COLOR WHEN YOU ARE DONE.

4TH GRADERS: DRAW PICTURES FOR YOUR POP UP HEAD PROJECT. THEY CAN BE TRACED ONTO YOUR PAPER HEAD AND COLORED WITH COLORED PENCILS. REMEMBER, TO USE SCALE TO SHOW WHAT ITEMS OR SYMBOLS ARE MORE IMPORTANT THEN OTHERS.


M.C. ESCHER'S TESSELLATIONS: TESSELLATIONS ARE SHAPES THAT FIT TOGETHER LIKE A PUZZLE. THE ARTIST M.C. ESCHER WAS A MASTER OF MAKING BEAUTIFUL ART FROM THEM. PRINT AND COLOR HIS "LIZARD" BELOW. SEE IF YOU CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE THEM FIT TOGETHER...HINT...LOOK FOR THE EMPTY (NEGATIVE) SPACES AROUND THE LIZARD AND LOOK TO SEE WHAT WOULD FIT IN THAT SPACE.

5TH GRADERS: PRACTICE CALLIGRAPHY. WRITE AN INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE. YOUTUBE SOME CALLIGRAPHY VIDEOS TO SEE SOME EXAMPLES OF CALLIGRAPHERS IN ACTION.

ART ELECTIVE:

TRACE THE MONA LISA BELOW ONTO A SHEET OF PAPER. FINISH IT IN THE STYLE OF A FAMOUS, FAVORITE ARTIST! FOR EXAMPLE, VINCENT VAN GOGH (LOOK AT "STARRY NIGHT FOR IDEAS).

ART ELECTIVE: You ARE CURRENTLY making art projects that are inspired by a favorite artist. DESIGN A T-SHIRT OR SHOE FOR THIS ARTIST!

Examples: VAN GOGH, MATISSE, O'KEEFE, MAGRITTE, DALI, MONET, JIM DINE, SEURAT, KANDINSKY, JACKSON POLLACK, DA VINCI, RENOIR, WAYNE THEIBAUD.

Visit the MUSEUM OF MODERN ART (MOMA) and draw 5 drawings of art that you enjoy.

Make a sketch of a favorite work. Write down WHY you are drawn to this artist or work. You can print out information about your artist to take the place of the Artist Biography sheet you are required to fill out for this project.

If you have a computer with movie making capabilities try animating a toy..add music for drama. Legos also work well for this!
