Independent Activities

Wk7: Watch the two videos below - 'Layers of the Earth' and 'What's Under your Feet' and complete the three activities below in your independent time. 

Wk 7 Independent Activities:

STOP - KWL Chart - write what you already know, wonder about our reading topic - 'What's inside our Earth?' Make a copy of this chart, place it in your Reading Folder and link it to the Task Completion.

• Comprehension activity: Watch the Layers of the Earth video. Make a copy of this, place it in your Reading Folder and link it to the Task Completion. There are 10 questions for you to answer. You must answer the questions in full.

• Using this printable net, create and label a 3D model of the Earth's Layers - see here for ideas. Make sure to use the videos and readings to help you get the layers the correct size. 

Wk 8 Independent Activities:

• First you are to update your KWL Chart and fill in the Learn section about what you learned last week about our reading topic.

• Watch the two videos for this week about Tectonic Plates.

• Summarising - after your first Guided Reading workshop, use this document to help you summarise what you have just read. We will go over how to use this document in your workshop. Make a copy of the document, place it in your Reading Folder and link it to the Task Completion.

Please don't start your 'create' task until Week 8. You may select one of the following options and if you finish early, choose another! Please note...if you do the Quiz, it is expected that you start another Create.

• Create your own 'Layers of the Earth' Structure. You might choose to draw this or create it using Google Drawings and print it off. The layers must be labeled. Here is an idea to get you started. 

• Imagine you are an explorer who is able to travel into the Earth's inner core! What do you see? What does it look like? How do you feel? You are to create a comic using Google Slides to show your journey to the Earth's core.
  You are to have images and dialogue - this can be done with a buddy.

• Write a simple book or poster for a child in Kākano to teach them about the Earth's layers. 

• Create a quiz about the Structure of the Earth - there must be a minimun of 10 questions.
