LEARN
Goals: plan effectively, where appropriate, using a variety of strategies.
use “show not tell” when appropriate.
This week we will brief but effective pieces of writing about our own Tūrangawaewae.
Importance of Planning - It is really important that we plan for writing, especially if the piece of writing is short, we have to choose what we say and how we say it very carefully for maximum impact. A planning template has been shared to your writing folder, you must complete this to a high standard as part of your writing task this week.
Using "show not tell" is really important for this piece of writing, we want to paint a picture of the place that is so special to you in the reader's mind. Look at the example below between show and tell
CREATE
This week you will write a descriptive piece of writing about your Tūrangawaewae, your place to stand. Think of a place that is special to you and your Whanau. A place where you feel the strongest in yourself and a place that makes you proud to be you.
You must use the planning template shared to you in your writing folder or negotiate with your workshop teacher if you would like to plan in a different way.
Make sure you use the buddy check box in the planning template to help improve your writing.
Your descriptive piece of writing should be no shorter than 70 words and no longer than 100 words.
