This week in writing we are going to begin to construct an item for a Kaupeka Hub Newspaper.

We will aim for a variety of articles/ads over the next few weeks. We will look at employing a range of people for various roles that are necessary for our newspaper to go to print on time!

What information is contained in a newspaper?
Newspaper DetectivesIn small groups browse through the newspaper and jot down different features you notice.Now add a collaborative answer to this padlet, try your best to not repeat ideas but add onto what others have said.
On the same padlet - add ideas about what specific things we could have unique to our Newspaper with a PBL context in mind. What work have we already produced that could be added? What should be our main story on the front page?

Ideas for your writing:

Interview a person in our community about their Tūrangawaewae.
Events that are happening in the community, how are they affecting people?, e.g never ending road works in our area, the new motorway, community gardens.
Bike track update - interview people involved to get their perspective.
The state of Christchurch's environment.
Write about the Purerehua's that we have created and the history behind them.
An article about Kapa haka - could turn this into an ad about getting people to give it a go?

Write an opinion piece about whether or not taonga should be allowed to be seen over school uniform.

Newspapers are written by the people, for the people, however, always think about whose viewpoint is being portrayed, is it a balanced article, or is there a hidden agenda?

CREATE

This writing task will take us two weeks - we are going to really take our time on what we create and ensure we do a quality job on our work.

What will you create for the Newspaper? Use the list above to help spark an idea.

On this doc place a link to your work where you will receive feedback and see the status (submitted, needs editing, accepted) of your Newspaper Item. Please name your link with a description. e.g. Article about Purerehua.

By the end of Week 7 you should have: gathered all necessary information about your topic, planned/outlined how you will present your information.

Week 8: Crafting/refining your work in your first workshop and independent writing slot, by your second workshop your work has been submitted to the editor for acceptance.

Finished Early? Design some ads/classifieds for the newspaper with our PBL question in mind.

Share your work so far on your blog. Ensure you include the purpose of the task, any new learnings and a question at the end for your readers.
