No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. - Aesop
Use knowledge from text to combine with new ideas (own and others) to come up with new thinking.
Think while reading, pick up new information, and come up with new ideas and new thinking.
This week in reading we are looking into historical Christchurch events, using the context of the Christchurch earthquake.
Select a two texts from the bookshelf on the right for your reading this week.
You must select one from the top shelf and then either an article from the 'New Zealand Flora & Fauna' link or Listening to the Land or Life in Aotearoa New Zealand.
This week in reading you will be working on two synthesising goals. When we synthesise a text we are pulling together what we already know, pulling new learned ideas, making connections and summaries to understand the text in full. Your thinking should change and evolve as you read the text.
In your learn session this week you need to have read two texts - one from the Kaupeka library top shelf and another one from the second shelf or an article from 'New Zealand Flora & Fauna'.
Before you read think about the following questions and discuss with your workshop group:
What do I already know about the Chch earthquake rebuild?
How did the earthquake affect our city?
What improvements do we need to make to our city/what do we need?
As you read think about how your thinking may change as you identify events in the text.
After reading: What do you now think Chch needs in terms of new spaces for our people. What do we need to consider and include in these new spaces? (i.e. NZ native plants).
It is now time to create a new space for Christchurch based off your reading texts from the week. Taking into consideration what you have read about the Christchurch earthquake rebuild, your own knowledge of Christchurch and the native plants and animals to New Zealand. Create a space that you believe Christchurch needs.
Below is some inspiration for your spaces - the images below are spaces that have been created as a result of the rebuild. You may wish to look at the articles to the right of the images - here there are more examples of what is to come.
Your space needs to be created using google drawings. You need to create a visual representation. Once you have created this, add speech bubbles to the side of your google drawing explaining why you have included these features.
Further inspiration:
Share your google drawing on your blog. Ensure you include the purpose of the task, any new learnings and a question at the end for your readers.
