COVID Safety Plan

St. Finn Barr Catholic School in collaboration with the San Francisco Department of Public Health and the Archdiocesan Department of Catholic Schools has created the following framework for the reopening of school*. All contents are subject to change in deference to local, state, and federal mandates.

As of July 9, 2021, ~ 75% of eligible San Franciscans are fully vaccinated. COVID-19 vaccination of staff, eligible students, and household members is one of the most effective ways to decrease the risk of COVID-19 in TK-12 schools. Vaccinated adults and teenagers help protect younger children who are not yet eligible for vaccination.

The past year has reinforced the importance of in-person learning to students’ physical and mental health, as well as their learning. Because of the importance of in-person learning to students’ health, measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 must consider and prioritize students’ access to safe and full in-person instruction, keeping them in school as much as possible and limiting unnecessary missed days at school.

The risk of transmission in school is low. Schools provide layers of prevention, in a structured, supervised setting where everyone must follow COVID-19 precautions. As a result, the risk of COVID-19 in schools is often lower than in less supervised settings outside of school. During the past school year, San Francisco had less than five cases of COVID transmission with in-person learning among 48,000 students and teachers, including during the height of the winter COVID-19 surge. SFDPH recommends that families with concerns consult with their child’s doctor before deciding not to send their child to school.

*This Operations Plan has been updated to reflect the State of California’s COVID-19 Reopening In-Person Instruction Framework and Public Health Guidance for K-12 Schools in California, 2020-2021 School Year issues on January 14, 2021.

Updates as of 1/11/2022

Requirements for Schools That Have Already Reopened

This reporting shall continue every other Monday (or the Tuesday immediately following, if the Monday is a state holiday) until this directive is modified or rescinded.

This information shall be reported via a web form that will be made available by the California Department of Public Health.

Plan Development and Focus on Continuous Improvement

This plan was developed in consultation with school and program leaders and Diocesan leadership. It takes into account the feedback of students, families, staff, and administrators through conversation and our site-based survey. St. Finn Barr’s administration team will examine the protocols on an as needed basis.

This plan is subject to change.

*As required, the school has posted a COVID-19 Safety Plan (CSP) on the homepage of the school’s website. The CSP includes the school’s Cal/OSHA COVID-19 Prevention Program (CPP) and the COVID-19 School Guidance Checklist. The detailed plans describing how our school meets the requirements outlined in the CSP elements are found in this Operations Plan.
