A.S.C.A. will be a smart, autonomous shopping cart designed to follow a customer throughout a store while also providing navigation and item search features. The cart will use four wheels, a microcontroller, and multiple sensors to track the user and prevent collisions with people or objects (possibly using of RF sensors, LiDAR, or computer vision). A wearable bracelet could be used to have the cart follow the customer if they move beyond a certain range. The user would also be able to pause and resume the following system through the bracelet or a touchscreen on the cart. It will also use a Linux based operating system containing a map of the store and the locations of different products. Users will be able to manually search for an item or use an LLM-powered search feature to help locate products. The final deliverable will be a working prototype that combines autonomous following, obstacle detection, user controls, store mapping, and product search into one system.
