Provide a tentative senior design plan

Spring 2025 (Our Current State) 

Explore Project Ideas:

After working through the several D6 exercises with our baby monitor product we have realized that we would like to choose a new area of focus for senior design. We discovered that collectively we are not that passionate about designing a baby monitor or other solutions regarding improving infant sleeping patterns. Therefore, we decided to explore alternatives to find a senior design project we will be passionate about. 

Below, we have completed a skill matrix in order to assess each team member's skills. 

Team Construction:

For this course, we had a strong team since each of us specialized in different areas and, together, we were able to cover many areas within computer and electrical engineering. However, after reviewing our skills and having a discussion with our team about future plans of product areas we would like to focus on for senior design, it came to our attention that we had several differences and decided it would be best to separate our group for senior design so each of us can follow our passions and focus on a project we want to. Below is a list of our tentative individual plans we have for senior design. Note that these plans are subject to change since many senior design teams do not form until summer or early fall. At this point in time we are all most focused on deciding which design project areas we feel most passionate about so that we can ensure that we all join a senior design team that will give us the most valuable experience before graduation.

Note that these plans are not finalized as most senior design teams do not start to form until summer/ early fall. Due to this, these plans mostly provide the areas we wish to focus on in senior design and do not go into much depth.

Kyra:

Currently not exactly sure which group I will work in for senior design. Some areas I am interested in are AI image tracking, power engineering and digital hardware design. Additionally I am very interested in engineering management so I would love to be in a group that allows me to have that kind of position within our team as well as getting to work on the technical aspects. I am very excited for senior design though I don’t have a specific product idea I want to work on. I am very interested in hearing of other designs and picking one that will best suit what I want to focus on and give me the best opportunity to work on areas I want to.  

Arden:

I am planning to join the computer science department for my senior design project. At this point, I feel very passionate about software development. Upon graduation I currently want to apply to jobs that are more closely related to computer science/data science. Due to this, I feel as if completing a computer science based project is the best way for me to have the most valuable experience before I graduate. In the summer, I will be joining a senior design X section that was created to allow me to work on a project with 5 computer science students. Our team will be following the computer science design structure, which will have us distribute our resumes to several clients. Once a client selects our team, we will work closely with the client to develop a solution to their problem throughout the course of the year. 

George:

Currently, I am unsure about where I want to go for my senior design project. I am interested in doing something in the realm of power engineering, or I might do something in the realm of software development such as building an algorithmic stock market trading system. I am a lot more confident in my ability to create something in the realm of power engineering as my CAD skills are extremely proficient and I have already done my research in channeling the energy of flowing gutter water. For this summer, I plan to talk to numerous students about their senior designs to discuss my ideas. 

Josh:

I am not sure what I am going to be doing for my senior design project. I feel confident in my abilities to do any kind of embedded system work, so hopefully when on a project it will be something where I can use and expand on my embedded systems skills. My embedded design skills will allow me to interject myself into any project and immediately be useful as embedded systems are at the heart of so many projects, therefore I feel that I can take a look at some of the available senior design projects and insert myself into whichever I feel most passionate and comfortable about.
